I live in a sea of conservatives. Everywhere I go I hear the Limbaugh-Hannity-O'Reilly talking points until I am sick to death. I sent this letter to my local paper, but doubt that it will be printed, since the editor and publisher are Republicans. If it is I'll have people turning their noses up at me.
Ha!
The themes for each night of the Republican Convention trumpet hypocrisy.
Service: They belittle the service of community organizers such as Barack Obama, thereby discounting the results of the service of other community organizers. Try substituting the work volunteer for organizer.
Women have the vote because of Susan B. Anthony and her army of volunteers. African-Americans would not have the rights they do today without the community organizer, Martin Luther King and his volunteers.
The poor and homeless gained social justice because of the work of Dorthea Dix. Gandhi led the people of India in efforts to acquire labor fairness, women's rights, and ethnic tolerance, and he helped secure the freedom of a nation. Locally, our own *** was a community organizer who left a lasting legacy. Local PTA’s perform community services in our schools. Palin, herself, was a community organizer! (PTA)
Reform: They have been the party in power for eight years. McCain proudly touts his record of having supported Bush’s programs more than 90% of the time. Just what does he propose to reform? Is he going to flip-flop on his own flip-flops?
Prosperity: Yes, the CEO’s of big businesses (oil, energy, drugs) certainly have been prosperous, and McCain’s plans to make permanent Bush’s tax cuts on the top 1% of our population will go a long way to make them even more prosperous.
Peace: McCain is shown on TV saying, ""I’m sorry to tell you this, my friends, but there are going to be more wars." (Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran!) His whole life is centered upon preparing for war and is still anchored in Vietnam.
McCain promised transparency and accountability yet is keeping his "Cheney", away from the press. Every speech featured attack, attack, attack, and offered nothing positive.
I’ll take my chances with Hope!
