Over the last week I've wondered whether anybody beyond my immediate family, friends, and the thousands of readers of liberal websites have any awareness of the issues swirling around Sarah Palin. And today, my question was answered.
Many of us have seen the cover of a recent "The National Enquirer," with its article about Sarah Palin's daughter. And there have been numerous comments and stories here with updates about the Enquirer's findings on Sarah Palin (including a story that the McCain campaign is threatening to sue).
Although I'm not usually a tabloid reader, not even in the dentist's office, I think the reporting on the issues surrounding Sarah Palin reflects the airing of her dirty laundry (and I'm not just talking about her family issues) to an audience well beyond the blogosphere. And I'm cauatiously hopeful that the dissemination of her biography will create the distaste for her among those who don't label themselves as liberal, as it has for us.
My hopes grew today as I was waiting to check out on the grocery line. The latest issue of "Us" magazine (another I don't read, though I might sneak a peak when having my hair done every now and then) also covers Sarah Palin's family issues. But when you open to the article, you find that in addition to that story about her family, the magazine has coverage of Troopergate and other substantive matters.
(By the way, when I tried to link to the story I read at the supermarket today I couldn't find it, but when I took the "Us" poll about who gave the better speech, I discovered Obama is crushing McCain. Uh oh, I think I see a subscription in my future.)
So it's not just the arugala eating, latte drinking liberals who are learning of Sarah's sordid story (and again, I don't mean her family), but also the 1,750,000 readers of "Us" magazine. Who'da thunk?
Then again, maybe I'm being too narrowminded, and failing to consider the possibility that we are the readership of "Us."
In an effort to see how wide-ranging this newfound journalistic effort is extending within the sensational tabloid world, I googled to find a few more tabloids. And for those who have never checked out the Weekly World News - you may learn today that Sarah "Palien" isn't really from Alaska.
