This just in from the Times:
MSNBC Takes Incendiary Hosts From Anchor Seat
I can't say I'm surprised, given how nasty the exchanges became between not two, but several commentators. I haven't followed the exchanges in too much detail, nor the back-end stories but losing Olbermann as the point man on MS-NBC's coverage is a real loss.
Too bad Rachel Maddow didn't get the chair, rather than the weather vane Gregory.
UPDATED with link: sorry about that. New title, too. (Is it just me or has the dKos diary interface gotten a little complicated? It took me forever to make and review these changes!)
Here's the lede:
MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election.
That experiment appears to be over.
After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.
Again, others can add what they know about the behind-the-scenes situation at MS-NBC. I just wonder if KO's star is falling after his meteoric rise to the top.
David Gregory?
Hey, KO, what's up wid dat?
