Last week’s Republican Platform stated that brave and courageous soldiers should continue to be dishonorably discharged from the military because according to them, "homosexuality is incompatible with military service" In other words, unless they screw women, we don't want em. It's sad but true that thousands of gay soldiers have to hide their sexuality in order to risk their lives to serve our country bravely and admirably, while at the same time fight off any rumours about their sexuality with could lead to expulsion and the loss of all retirement benefits. Wow. I thought fighting one battle was hard enough. Except if you’re gay. Then you're fighting the outside enemy as well as the traitors within your own camp.
I thought no-one is supposed to be engaging in sexual activity with another person while on active duty anyway, straight or gay. It really is unreal that we’re in the middle of a war in the year 2008 and some of the military’s top nuclear scientists, Arabic linguists, medical doctors, and high ranking commanders are still being kicked out just so that Republican and Conservative congressmen can continue their long standing policy of ignorance and bigotry against gays and lesbians. Does this sound like the party that will do anything it takes to win the war on terror? What’s even worse is that some of these republican congressmen who support this harmful, out of date policy called "don’t ask don’t tell", (signed by Bill Clinton after he tried to end the ban on gays but was blocked from doing so, mostly by Republicans) are themselves gay. (ex: Senator Craig, former Rep. Mark Foley etc.). These people are in such denial about their sexuality they have to resort to having sex in public bathrooms or e-mailing underage pages with salacious offers to try and get off, literally. This costly witch-hunt of outing and kicking out highly trained gay military personnel and finding replacements has cost the military over $370 million dollars as of 2005. An astounding amount of money that could have been used to provide troops with stronger body armor and more protection on their vehicles against deadly IEDs, instead of having troops forage through heaps of scrap metal to try and better protect themselves. Expelling gay soldiers when troop enrollment levels are already precariously low also puts soldiers in harm’s way by reducing the number of soldiers in the battlefield and forcing the remaining troops to serve to duty sooner rather than the customary rest period in between their deployments (Note: Democrats recently tried to pass legislation stating that all troops be given proper time in between military deployments but the republicans blocked the measure). Another disturbing military policy is the recruitment of criminals, felons, and even rapists to enlist and serve. This is how desperate the military is to hire more troops, as long as they’re not gay. Republicans would rather have less soldiers and highly trained specialists as long as the ones who serve enjoy pussy, because that's what real men are all about. Do you think any of these idiot politicians or military leaders like Peter (pick me a peck of pickles) Pace have ever asked the troops themselves if they would have a problem fighting the enemy alongside their gay comrades? Of course not. Isn't America supposed to have the best trained soldiers in the world? Yet according to conservative republicans our troops' morales are so fragile that if they discovered their fellow comrades didn’t do chicks, they wouldn't be able to fight the enemy as effectively because they’d be depressed, wishing their fellow soldiers fucked girls like themselves so they could swap stories in the barracks at bedtime. Should I laugh now or later?
To this date, twenty-four countries with supposedly less capable armies currently allow gays and lesbians to serve openly. Not one of these countries has reverted to their former policy of banning gays from serving. Let me repeat that. Not One! Has any politician or military leader ever consulted with any of these countries and asked them how it’s all working out? Of course not. The American people might not be the brightest people (hint: they elected George Bush because they felt he'd be a cool guy to have a beer with at a bar) but they get this one. About 75% favor ending "don’t ask don’t tell" immediately. Democrats have done the right thing by denouncing "don’t ask don’t tell" in their platform. They also support mandatory time off between tours of duty for our troops. They care about the safety and well being of our troops. It’s the republicans, most of them having never served a day of their lives in the military, who continue to favor bigotry and ignorance instead of wanting to win the war on terror. They should remove this shameful policy from their platform and vote to overturn it. They should also apologize to every gay and lesbian who has been banned or discharged from serving and beg them to return. Only they'll never do that, cause they just don't care enough.
