There is going to be a lot of interest in Sen. Obama appearing on David Letterman tonight, especially now with all of the "lipstick" back and forth. If he knocks it out of the park tonight, there will be endless coverage on the cable networks and on the morning shows tomorrow. But he needs a good line, a good hook, to really bring it home. Once Palin's interview on ABC is aired tomorrow night, that will dominate for the rest of the weekend. So we have 1 day to put the final nail in the coffin. So let's get creative!
I f-loved Sen. Obama's comments from earlier this morning. He really drove the point home and threw it back at the McCain campaign. And the fact that people like Gov. Huckabee and Elizabeth Hasselback are actually defending Barack Obama shows that McCain has overplayed his hand. The Today show started with a clip of Sen. McCain making his own "lipstick" remark from last year, so the hypocrite meme is out there.
My question is, what could Obama say tonight on Letterman that could really wrap this up for him, in terms of putting this issue to bed and putting McCain's camp back on its heels?
I was thinking something self-depracating, along the lines of:
"Had John McCain ever gone out and used another phrase, for example 'that's the pot calling the kettle black', you wouldn't see me getting all worked up over it. Y'know why? Cuz it's just a phrase. He's seeing things that aren't there."
Anyone else have an idea as to what line he could drop? Maybe Camp Obama is looking for idea. I'd really like to see him come out on top on this one, and his appearance on Letterman is just the chance to do it.
Thoughts?
