I would love to tell some of you "I told you so."
I was an Edwards supporter (tells you what I know) who then drifted over to Hillary because I never thought Obama had November victory in him. In my ideal world, he would never be my candidate. Glasbooth.org tells me I'm more of a Biden / Dodd / Richardson kind of guy - somebody who appreciates a resume - but I supported Edwards because I thought white Southern guys are the ones who win the White House and that's all that mattered to me - victory.
Here we are with less than two months to the election and things are looking just a touch dicey. It's going pretty much as the cynics among us predicted - Obama's having some trouble connecting. And as much it might be satisfying to take pleasure in being right, it's impossible to do so. Why? (more)
Our country's future is at stake. We've had 8 yrs of a Republican administration. What have we got to show for it:
Treasury plundered for an ungrateful foreign nation and oli company profits.
Thousands of families shattered through death or serious injury of war.
Job security as a thing of the past.
A supreme court one vote away from fascist-enablement.
Health care slipping away from more people.
Retirement quality of life eroded.
Education in decline and access to higher education receding away.
Civil liberties being stripped through fear-mongering.
Increased dependence on foreign oil.
Ressurgence of Russia as a threat.
Increased foreign ownership through a weakened dollar.
A city washed away in a storm.
Increased income disparity between rich and poor.
Real estate bubble through malfeasant fed policy.
Treasonous exposure of secret government agents
Bank deregulation leading to bank closures and likely FDIC insolvency
Pension destruction for everyone but CEOs.
"Young Earth" literature in National Parks
Trying to use Congress to keep Terri Schiavo on machines.
Suppression of science.
Veterans being mistreated and unsupported.
Increased abortions and teen pregnancy and increased "abstinence only" programs
Unsafe food (human and animal) and lead on toys from China
And that's just the quick list. How can anyone take satisfaction by the fact that this election appears close? Only somebody who doesn't care about their country could possibly want to continue the last 8 years into the next 4. I'm sorry but I love my country too much to hate Obama.
For those of you who supported somebody else and still aren't on the Obama bus, please tell me which items on the above list are less important than the fact that your candidate didn't win.
Senator McCain, you want me focus on lipstick? Sir, those five plus years you spent in Hanoi were supposed to be about ensuring things on that list above didn't happen here. Lipstick?
I'll say it again, I love my country too much to hate Obama.
