I just got done airing this story and I have to go back soon, so here's the gist:
At the annual trial lawyers convention in July, Governor Schweitzer told a story about the 2006 Senate race that elected Jon Tester over Republican incumbent Conrad Burns.
Schweitzer's story talks about running off poll watchers and pressuring the Butte-Silver Bow county clerk & recorder to hold off on releasing results until they could ensure Tester's victory to avoid talk of a recount.
More on the story here.
You can hear the speech here.
The county clerk & recorder denies anything happened, but a citizen's complaint has been filed and there will likely be an investigation.
I personally chalk this up to bluster, but joking about quasi-legal tactics to avoid recounts doesn't benefit anyone. Especially in an election year.
I'll update things after tonight's news.
