This via TPM via Wall Street Journal:
In the letter, written before Sen. John McCain picked the Alaska governor as his running mate, former U.S. Attorney Wevley Shea warned Gov. Palin that "the situation is now grave" and recommended that she and her husband, Todd Palin, apologize for "overreaching or perceived overreaching" for using her position to try to get Trooper Mike Wooten fired from the force.
Just another in a long line of you know who doing whatever she likes regardless of the consequences, appearances, or even common logic.
This former ethics advisor wrote this letter out of concern and as a friend:
Mr. Shea followed up with another letter, dated Aug. 4, in which he told Gov. Palin that she probably couldn't legally shun a legislative investigation into the firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.
Most striking, however, are Mr. Shea's wishes that Palin
apologize for "overreaching or perceived overreaching" for using her position to try to get Trooper Mike Wooten fired from the force.
and that "the situation is now grave."

It's not just that she's Bush with lipstick, it's not just that Palin is obviously consumed completely with her own personal agenda; it's that in spite of all the evidence, the pundits, the media, many voters still focus on crap. Troopergate as it stands right now would have shut down just about any Democratic contender for vp because we as liberals actually operate with a set of ethics. When we do something wrong we often feel that we need to pay a price.
We don't see that with many Republicans (and with some Democrats as well)...is the power so overwhelming so personality altering that it removes your soul, your sense of decency. It seems to be the case. And that is just sad. It's bed time, I have a 7th and 8th grade language arts class to teach tomorrow on September 11th.
I will try to instill in my students the sense of duty and honor that is so lacking in the Republicans political discourse...
