In 2000 I was a whole hearted supporter of John McCain.
I knew what the man stood for and I felt McCain
was the best Candidate for President.

I cheered his back handing of religious zealots,
the way he railed against party nepotism and
politics. The way McCain reached across
party lines and seem to give practical solutions
to political problems and compromise.

Then I watched what the Republican/Bush/Rove
machine did to McCain with lies such as the
illegitimate Black baby BS, and I felt for him.

I now watch the McCain on TV is 2008 in total
disbelief. Everything he was against he now
embraces. This is not the man I wanted to vote
for in 2000, I do not recognize the current
day McCain!

McCain pandered to the Far Right with his pick of
Palin. He HUGGED Bush! He supported the
Bush policies of Immigration and tax cuts that
months earlier McCain had ridiculed!

McCain has embraced Rovian divisive politics
that drive wedges ever deeper between the
political parties and Americans.

McCain now has become the very enemy he fought
against in 2000.

McCain talks of change, but it is McCain who
has changed and for the worst.

McCain speaks of his willingness to lose an
election rather than losing a war.

McCain doesn't mention he is also willing
to betray his beliefs to win an election.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Is McCain really showing America what naked ambition for power will create? A man willing to turn his back on all of his beliefs, ideals and ethics for one last chance at glory?

But as a pedantic person, I feel the need to point out at the risk of being undiplomatic:

    1. Viet Cong was the South Vietnam liberation movement. McCain was captured by the North Vietnamese.
    1. The Viet Minh did indeed break McCain* to betray and denounce his own country 35(?) times to save his own skin. What's changed? Within 12 months he was publicly embracing the man who destroyed his 2000 hopes with outright lies and slander. He's always been a 'survivor', and I don't use that word in the positive sense.

*Quite easily in fact as according to current US policy, which he himself supports and agrees with, the North Vietnamese did not torture him.

Where he now adopts and approves of the torture methods which were once successfully used against him, he now also adopts and approves of the religious right and the lies & slander methods which were successfully used against him.

He appears to learn the lessons of those who have mastered him.

      •  Disagree. McCain always for glory (1+ / 0-)

meaning, use any means to get it in the name of USA, Navy, whatever.........Including use of torture ......

If McCain had personal modesty instead of such (false) pride.......he would have kept quiet about Vietnam because America wasn't the shining light of goodness to the extent McCain would like to think.

And read William Polk's "Violent Politics"........Vietnam was lost already back in 1963.

        Yes, change your title please.

#1 Question = WHICH McCain? Senator or Candidate who no longer agrees with Senator?

And watching him sink into the Rovian cesspool leaves me disappointed and filled with shame.

He is willing to divide and damage the country with lies and half truths, just for the chance to lead it.   That is not love of country.

  •  WcCain has been a phony all his life. (0+ / 0-)

Before Vietnam and during and since. In public and in private life.

  •  McCain has always been a self-involved nasty (0+ / 0-)

piece of shit. If I believed in god I would say god help us if he wins because a McCain/Palin administration is going to make Bush/Cheney look like the pinnacle of sober thought and wise counsel.
Since I don't believe god any more than I believe in santa claus and the tooth fairy I'll just have to help where I can and hope we win.
