Remember in the Primaries, when Obama said the US should be willing to move on actionable intelligence against Al Qaeda in Pakistan. McMaverick took that as a prime examplethat Obama just didn't have the Foreign Policy chops to be President.
Now comes confirmation that in late July, George W. Bush adopted the very Obama policy suggestion that McCain mocked as naive. Will someone please ask McCain what he thinks about this? I mean, George Bush has 8 years of Presidential Foreign Policy Experience, right?
Of course, this wasn't the first time we've seen this....
We all remember Obama's speech in October 2002 where--as a lowly and naive state senator--he had the judgment to denounce the Iraq war as a distraction.
The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without [Saddam].
But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.
I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.
I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars.
John McCain, on the other hand, was pushing for war with Iraq before Bush was, according to Richard Clarke.
Obama had the foresight McCain lacked.
And then there was Obama's plan to withdraw troops from Iraq within 16 months. He was again slammed as naive. But then came news that Iraqi Prime Minister agreed with Obama's assessment.. (And so did McCain.)
But that didn't stop McCain fromtrashing Obama's plan. (You might recognize this McCain strategy: Ignore the Facts, Lie, Repeat Lie, Repeat Lie, Repeat Lie, Rinse, Repeat.
Of course, we can't expect anyone to press McCain on the continued and ongoing vindication of Obama's judgment. Not when there's lipstick to talk about.
And, as an afterthought: I think McCain's continued lies must really be getting to him. He's become so self-loathing that he's acquired the web domain www.FuckMcCain.com and www.FuckPalin.com.
