Fake president - isn't that all that leapt to mind while watching Sarah Palin go through the motions with Charlie Gibson? This can't be real. Her eyes didn't blink. She had a believer's "glazed" look. Her syllable empahses were incorrect. Her quotes read like they were translated into English from a foreign language.
Palin, I am convinced, is not a real person. And so my free-associating mind wanders to the question: Who is your favorite make believe president? I go with Jackson Evans, the Jeff Bridges character from "The Contender". Easy authority, seemed friendly, but could go from folksy to ruthless like that.
Some other candidates below the fold
Dave - well, he actually WAS a fake president, but he seemed to embody the everyman and what not. (and by everyman I mean a kind to aspire to not ms. hockey mom bridge to nowhere)
Bill Pullman in Independence Day - I forget the character's name, but he still knew how to fly a fighter jet!
President David Palmer from 24
Morgan Freeman in Deep Impact
J Bartlett from The West Wing
Andrew Sheppard from The American President
Lot of good fake presidents to choose from. Almost all better than the ones the GOP is putting out there in 2008.
