This is a reconstruction of one of my past comment back in the days of the heated primary and I have updated to fit the current predicament faced by a populace that is both bewildered by the republican surge and daunted by their inability to close the deal on an election that was theirs (democrats) to lose come this November.
As the election year rolls by I am beginning to get a wisp of de je vu.
Last year, we did not wonder who the next president would be. The conversation debated the identity of the next Democratic president to protect the much abused constitution come January 2009. Will it be Gore, Kerry, Clinton, Obama or Edwards? We all had our favorite knight in shining armor.
That time went by.
The summer of 2008 saw the bitter war of attrition. Though, some quarters claimed this to be good for the party and a true democratic process, I was afraid, based on prior history, that the wounds could become fatal in November. Democrats have been notorious for, their lack of discipline, principled grudges that linger way past the primaries and the inability, unlike the republicans, to close ranks behind their demigods.
Year after Year with a few exceptions, the Democrats pride in implosive self destruction. They have this uncanny power to turn (or let it happen as in Kerry’s case) their heroes into public villains and let the republican scoundrels magically metamorphosis into gods; to be worshipped at the altar of "American wisdom"
"To do the same thing again and again but expect a different outcome is insanity"
Well Democrats are adept at this practice of political suicide.
I am reminded of the Y tube skit about Charlie and the candy mountain. The republicans again and again lure the hapless democrats into the candy mountain to have their Kidney stolen again and again.
Maybe someone would be wise to act differently this time or is that wishful thinking on my part?
Can I be fatalistic and blame it all on diabolic conspiracies?
Let me start with my political stand,
I have always been a progressive independent (It bugs me that I cannot vote in my state’s primary ever)
We independents do not have an appropriate blogger site (at least I am not aware of one) So we are at the mercy of the left leaning sites like this as we are independents who are progressives but does not pledge allegiance to the democratic party.
In the past we have been mocked here as people who do not stand for anything. On the contraire my friends we do. we are progressives but that does not mean we agree on every democratic agenda.
Neither of them (Clinton/ Obama) were overwhelming favorite against the other in my book. I have certain fundamental dislike about some of the views and policies of both of them but both of them were miles ahead of McCain who I can see only as an extension of 8 years of W at best or a Romanesque ruins or even worse a Hiroshima in the Middle East. So I did not really care who of the two; Clinton or Obama wins in November.
My stand, as subscribed above, would spare me the anguish of analyzing my view points on either Clinton or Obama.
Unfortunately as an independent who does not have the recourse to a viable third party candidate (let's not even mention The Nader word) I did not want the Democratic candidate to **** up once again!
I wondered if the two of them, for the home stretch, talk only in positive tones highlighting what they stood for. I prayed for them to put away the daggers, lest the wounds they cause today turn into mortal injuries to be preyed upon by the "evil empire"?
And here we are; less than two months away from yet another election. I have noted the use of "Moose in the headlight" label for Palin but my friends it looks like it’s the Democratic Party that is caught in the headlights with their pants down.
If we do not wake up to the reality of the only one rule of the game that the republicans play that there are no rules and that they play for keeps, 2008 will join the ranks of 2000 and 2004.
Age old trap
We spend hours on end doing mental masturbation about various moral, ethical and policy issues. I ask you who cares? Not the average Joe or Jane, but you and I who have time to spare chugging away at the key boards.
The average Joe and Jane Blows have no time or capacity to understand the mumbo jumbo just like Palin does not.
So for them, mocked by the elitist you, it is easy to identify with her!
• First lesson: do not mock Palin. More you engage in it more the guy on the street, the apolitical voters, who does not have strong political views, the group that gets no attention from anyone but are a populous group all the same, gets angry at the holier than thou remarks. They do vote and they do not vote republican or democrat but they do based on the gut and more often than not they vote for the underdog.
She is no more cognitively challenged than W and cat calls by the left that W was a moron got him elected not once but twice. She certainly, so does W, has at least average intelligence. One does not need to be a Mensa member to be the president. After the entire president is not elected as the brightest bulb in the room but as the "model" citizen of this country.
She is street smart san Ivy League college degrees.
She has the drive to get what she wants.
She has the right ideology that stimulates the fanatics.
She is a dangerous person indeed.
Does this not remind you of W in 2000?
Condescending or disrespectful approach will never win the uneducated over. If some one calls you an idiot will you vote for him/her?
• The republicans are very good at this game as the past two elections have shown. Issues do not matter to them. They are very good at springing the surprise (You have to give it to them that Palin was a total surprise to the democrats) If I may use the sports adage they are good at controlling the ball/clock. The response that I have seen here from democrats are exactly what the republicans what you to do. Make fun of the "mindless bimbo". No matter how truthful these allegations are, they will serve two purposes- one to deflect attention from the cognitively impaired McCain and second to depict the democrats as elitist, common people bashing arrogant group of people.
I see you guys falling into the same trap again.
In this country issues, truth etc does not take the center stage but the staging itself is the soul of winning an election.
The voting majority, with no time or interest or knowledge of the intricate and convoluted nature of national and world politics seeks solace in the sound bits. The win and loss in this election; the past two and many more to come depend on the packaging.
If Obama wants to win this election, he has to again take control (hard because the media is controlled by the moneyed) mobilized his and Hilary folks as well as millions of people who are not happy with the state of the nation.
There are millions of "reds" who will not vote for a black person and there are more who will not vote for a democrat even if the candidate was JC himself. Do not waste time on them. Tailor the campaign to win the group that is neither red nor blue. Make them like you more than they like McCain.
So how do we deal with Palin? It sure would have been easy if the VP candidate was a Romney, Liebermann or Hakabee. You all knew what to expect.
They did throw you a curve ball. You have to learn fast to deal with her.
I see the best way to do that is to ignore her ignorance and
inexperience but blow her ideology, view points out of the water without attacking the person. Focus on issues only when it comes to her.
Keep Obama from her. He can not psychologically win a head to head with her. Leave that to the anonymous and Joe Biden.
If you want to destroy a person you man is McCain.
Know your enemy and destroy him.
The right puts out outrageous claims which get shot down. It not only works as a smoke screen but about 2% of population belies the first story no matter the truthfulness or subsequent retractions. It is a number game and 2% counts!
It is about time we take the mystique and myths out of this false larger than life War hero. We need to show him for what he really is in addition to tanking his principles which are anathema to this country as shown by the destruction caused by W.
McCain as a person
McCain is damaged goods psychologically.
- He is already 72
Demand that he has a public medical and psychological evaluation. Let’s see if he will decline (hiding facts are we now? Like Reagan did)
We now know about our dementia presidents in the past/present and how they "served our country". (Alzheimer’s dementia in R and alcohol dementia in W) Why do you think they kept the MRI off’s" and "W" from national view?
One would love to see the MRI of W’s brain, to see the damage (medical fact: at least 20 years of mega heavy alcohol use can significantly damage brain. I am not including other potential recreational entities)
Though we respect personal privacy, when the American security is at risk, we want to know. It is no different from pilot that flies a commercial airline is kept away from alcoholism.
Add at least 5 years for the stressors of life in POW camp so he is already "76" and we think Castro was too old?
He is already forgetting things he had said before...His deposition in Keating case and the length of stay for our forces in Iraq would be two examples.
He is showing personality changes:
a) He had extremely bad temper before which continues to grow.
b) He was a deal maker before but is becoming stubborn (like W) another sign of change
He is beginning to lose clarity
2.PTSD
He suffered from PTSD and tried to kill himself.
So now we want a psychiatric patient to be the next president?
Why not Dr.Hannibal Lecter as the running mate instead of Palin?
All medical evidence shows that:
The chance of suicide increases with each attempt.
Stress can rekindle even the best controlled/treated PTSD.
The job of the president is the most stressful job. The stress can re kindle PTSD again and he could become suicidal again.
More damagingly.
When he re lives the Nam experience and dissociate with flash backs and is bombarded with nightly nightmares he can very well become not only eminent danger to himself but more importantly to the world. He would try to correct his personal failure (he certainly" failed" by letting himself be shot down and be captured by inferior Gooks. He still says that he hates the gooks. He was rendered" impotent" for 5 years. This is contrary to populist and mythical glory image. The break in the career also resulted in the rupture of his dream to become an admiral like his father and grandfather.) He has always seen that war as incomplete. He carries on the same war in a different theatre the Middle East .Well what was one thing that this country did not use which could have certainly ended (?won)the war over thirty years ago?
Yes you guessed it right nuclear bombs? With him at the button one can only image. ..
Remember the song video with Ragan pushing the nuclear button? Well with McCain and PTSD it can be the MUSHROOM CLOUD(S) and beginning of the end of the world.
The danger is ever more than the rule of W.
W wanted to rule the OIL for the money so he was less likely to nuke it. But for McCain it is personal and by God he is looking for closure!!!!
WE as citizens should insist not only full disclosure on his physical state but also a complete psychological and neuropsychological evaluation on him by a team of experts and the results made public to see the kind of person that the Americana is really voting to be the scythe bearer.
3.McCain is no real hero.
America is the modern land of myth and mystique. I, who have worked with hundreds of veterans from WW II to OIF/OVF, know that the vast majority of them do not consider him a hero.
His war hero myth has become a sacred cow. It is time to carve the fattened calf.
- Manchurian candidate
"If Obama is the Muslim terrorist, then we have a deeper mole in McCain. He was a POW of the Commies for 5 long years where he was tortured He sang like hell and was nick named the songbird. he was brainwashed and send back as a commie mole to take over the USA" It is not impossible with what those commies were capable. They practiced water boarding centuries ago and made it into an art form. McCain is the perfect Manchurian candidate!
If you think the latter is absurd so is the former! (Remember how Kerry and W had their labels mutilated by the swift boat. Don’t you know that America loves a good story? It all depends who is a better story teller.
- The 2000 murder of Mcain character by the Bush team
To feed the xenophobic south we can recycle the great demolition work W/Rove did on him in 2000. Including the story that he fathered a black child. Imagine what a TV ad that can be with play of shades and shadows!
6.Closet pro choice man.
And for consumption of the fundies all his affairs over the years and his waffling with abortion. He is really a closet pro choice and might have been a bareback mountain player with dear Joe!
7.The consumate insiderman/antireformer
The self righteous, incestuous and hypocritic relationship with lobbyist dating back to the Keating five
8.Pro(illegal)imigration
For the conservatives he wants to let in all the brown skinned so that this becomes a brown nation full of people like his Bangladeshi daughter
We need to start a campaign of these points stated again and again. let the Mccain camp challenge then we can fudge the picture, and battle over the finer points like the lipstick on the pig . But the end game is to turn that 2% against him with each attack. thats how the republicans have won elections and its time to repay in the same coin.
This need to to be done by us a stone at a tome until it becomes a barrage .And all along have Obama stay above all this bickerring deal with issues only.
Who will be the democratic Rove, the character assassin?
We all need to be !
On the positive side I think the most important person next to Obama is President Clinton. I was looking at the electoral college votes in 1992 and 1996. Bill won states like MT, CO, NM, LA, GA, AZ.TN, KY
One of the biggest blunters of Gore and Kerry was to keep him away. Bill is the man!. We need him now. No matter how much the reds hate him Bill can mobalize the rest like no one else can.
