It's McCain who should be on the defensive and it is up to the Obama camp to get him there where he belongs
These talking points are borrowed from E.J. Dionne's article in the Washington Post today. I have just added a few points here and there...
We don't need ads about McCains ineptness with computers. We need to get out the facts over and over....beat him with his "strong points".
- McCain is widely viewed as the candidate that "supports the troops". Yet he repeatedly has denied funding to veterans. Obama has repeatedly supported the veterans in various legislation. THIS NEEDS TO BE AN ISSUE RIGHT OUT THERE...and it needs to be repeated OVER and OVER and OVER.
- Few voters know that Obama would cut the taxes of the vast majority of Americans by far more than McCain would. It is not getting reported. The campaign is not highlighting this at all. Instead, McCain's campaign has now convinced 20% of Americans that Obama will actually raise their taxes.
- Few know Obama would guarantee everyone access to health care or that McCain's health plan might endanger coverage many already have. (Hard to make a case for this in a 30 second ad)
- Few know that Obama has a coherent program to create new jobs through public investment in roads, bridges, transit, and green technologies.
- In short, few Americans know what (or whom) Obama is fighting for, because he isn't really telling them.
- And few know that McCain's economic plan is worse than President Bush's. As Jonathan Cohn points out in the New Republic, McCain would add $8.5 trillion in new debt over the next 10 years.
It's McCain who should be on the defensive and it is up to the Obama camp to get him there where he belongs....
