First diary try, here. I put up a version of this as a comment earlier, but before I could get it posted, it slid off the list. Bear with me. I think it's time that we address not just Palin's lies, but her financial malfeasance.
We’ve got to be happy that the media is finally paying sufficient attention to the lie that Sarah Palin and McCain have been telling about her cancellation of the bridge to nowhere among others. But I’m wondering when the media is going to put a little more pressure on McCain’s pride in her given the full scope of her actions. His beef is wasteful spending, and even though that bridge never came to pass, Palin kept the federal money and spent it on other things without any approval from anyone. Why wouldn't he be just as upset if not even more so about unauthorized spending?
Let’s try a thought experiment:
Imagine you have a relative who asks you for money to buy a new car because he's got this great job opportunity that requires him to have a vehicle. You give it to him, but then you find out that this job opportunity is not so great after all. Let's say it's an Amway distributorship or something. So you tell him he's better off keeping his old job. He sees the light and keeps his old job, but then he takes the money you gave him for the car and has his housepainted, buys a new big screen television, maybe puts in a swimming pool in the backyard, and sends his daughter to Europe for the summer.
What would you do if at the next family reunion you hear him tell the assembled clan:
"I told Bill 'Thanks but no thanks on that new car. When I decide I need a new car, I'll buy it myself."
I'm guessing you'd call the lying lowlife out and demand your money back.
So when does the GAO call Palin and the state of Alaska out and demand the money back?
If McCain's so riled up about standing up for the American taxpayer that he's going to veto earmarks and publish the names of the sponsors, how about demanding that Palin return the money to the taxpayers whom they claim they'll protect.
