My kids were watching Nickelodeon this morning and I just happened to overhear Meghan McCain being interviewed in a blurb called Kids Pick the President. I didn't realize that this sort of public service message was appearing on kids' channels, so I grabbed the remote and went back to listen to the entire message.
Please note, this is my first diary and I'm not trying to slam the candidates' family members. I'm hoping that all the candidates' kids or grandchildren are given equal time and I asked the kids to let me know if they see other segments like this. Meghan's answer to the last question is what caught my attention and I think it's interesting to note what's being put out by all the campaigns. I'm not sure how many of you kossacks are watching Nickelodeon, so I wanted to help out where I can! :-)
Now this is not all verbatim, but I think I've got the gist of what she said. Meghan said that campaigning with her father was like living out a "rock-n-roll fantasy" because she gets to ride on the bus and there are screaming crowds at all the stops (really? screaming?).
She then went on to explain why it's important for young people to get out to vote and gave a pretty good explanation (the girl doing the interview gushed that it was "inspirational"). Meghan said that it's our duty as Americans to vote and that voting was a privilege. But then she added that with Governor Palin being the first woman VP candidate for the Republicans it made her think about Women's Suffrage and that's why it's our duty to vote no matter who you vote for.
Now for the best part. The girl doing the interview asked Meghan if she had picked out her room in the White House. Meghan grinned and said no, but that Jenna Bush had showed Meghan her room when she was living there. Meghan went on to say that "it's beautiful," then pointed her finger and lowered her tone to say, "they're smaller than you think though." She was definitely not happy about that, it seems living in the White House will be a step down for Ms. McCain.
I guess the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree, right? Thanks for reading.
