This Clintonista went to see Joe last night and I got so fired up I was leading cheers for 1500 people! Everything about the event was terrific. Everyone associated with the Obama campaign was kind, helpful, polite and charming. And Joe! Wow! The mantra I picked from his speech was :"MCCAIN JUST DOESN'T GET IT." I also especially appreciated ,in light of today's news, his pledge that under an Obama/Biden administration no corporate CEO would be allowed to run your pension funding and savings into the ground and then walk away with a nice fat parachute! They are gonna have to empty their pockets first. No More Corporate Piracy. Finally. Healthcare . END TO THE WAR. JOBS.
We were roaring with enthusiasm. Every color of the rainbow was there and the sense in the hall was like a spirited family reunion. There was spontaneous singing and laughter all around and amazing solidarity.
Joe and Jill were both wonderful, inspiring speakers. He's handsome, she's beautiful and they are evidently crazy about each other (what's not to love?). If you don't know already, she has her doctorate in education and works with special needs kids and has a special interest in behavioral health. This is a real story of family values. Joe drives home[correction:rides the train home] every day--two hours each day, each way. He doesn't use the taxpayer to pay for a $60K+ "babysitter" to raise his kids(see yesterday's NYT). Only one small mention of Palin's name(which is all she rates--she is a cipher) and the crowd booooooooooo'd loudly. And then he went back to the plan for our economy. Green technology to once again lead the world. Jobs training. Stop shipping jobs overseas. Healthcare. Energy independence--for real. "America is ready to roll"--his message was one of determination, the absolute refusal to allow the American dream to die, and the plan and grit to get us up and moving again as a nation. I believe him.
If you get a chance to see him--GO. He was gracious, real, funny, informed and brilliant and he gave me a real sense of hope for my daughter's future. McCAIN JUST DOESN'T GET IT. Pass it on.
