...And you may need to as well!
At the end of February, I moved from Virginia to Indiana. Once I was settled I registered to vote in Indiana, making sure to check the box that said I had been previously registered at another address.
Doing so is supposed to cancel your previous registration.
I really didn't give my Virginia registration any more thought until the Vote For Change website launched. website launched.
I finally went today to check my registration - mainly because I wanted to see how the search works. I checked my Indiana address, then decided to check my old address.
When I saw that it was still active I got worried for two reasons.
One, I didn't want any kind of ID theft to result from my address still being in the system when I no longer live there.
But also, I didn't want there to be a possibility of using my name to give extra votes to ANY candidate.
In my case, I called the election office in Virginia Beach and asked them what I needed to do. It was quick and painless, and the lady at the office was very happy to help.
Anyone out there who's moved recently, it may be a good idea to go to Vote For Change and check your previous voting address.
I hate to feel like I should be wearing a tinfoil hat, but I wouldn't put it past Repubs to find a way to give dormant ID votes to their candidates.
