Okay, a bit of distraction from the impending destruction of our economy and the rise to power of Caesar Paulson ... Tonight's Emmy Awards!
Which I had absolutely no clue was on and didn't watch. I probably wouldn't have watched it if it was on, but way to totally under-advertise your big award show. The winners seem to largely confirm what the cool folks already knew: Network T.V. is lame and Cable T.V. is where it's at.
My favorite show on T.V. "Mad Men" took home the award for Outstanding Drama Series. If you haven't checked out "Mad Men" on AMC, do yourself a favor and buy the first season on DVD and then download the first eight episodes of the Second Season, best written show on T.V. and up there with "The Wire" as one of my all time favorites. If you still don't like "Mad Men" ... you are part of the problem.
Bryan Cranston won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as a High School Chemistry teacher turned meth cook on AMC's other series "Breaking Bad". Glenn Close won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for "Damages" (I need to check that out). Paul Giamatti and Tom Wilkinson took home Outstanding Lead and Support Actors in a Miniseries for "John Adams" while Laura Linney (who I have a strange crush on) won for her portrayal Abigail Adams and "John Adams" walked off with Best Miniseries. "Recount" walked off with best T.V. Movie, which almost seems like an insult to that movie.
The only bright spot for Network T.V. came in the Comedy category with "30 Rock" winning for Best Comedy, Alec Baldwin winning for Outstanding Lead in a Comedy Actor, and V.P. Candidate Sarah Palin walking off with Outstanding Lead Actress in Comedy.
Hopefully this will wake up Network Television and make them turn off the Drivel Pump in favor of more inspired dramas like "Mad Men" and "Damages". But then I see a promo for the new "Knight Rider" on NBC and my hope quickly wanes.
