As a disabled veteran I am ashamed of John McCain, Captain U.S. Navy retired's conduct during this campaign season. He has broken the Military Code of Conduct, violated the rules of being an Officer and a Gentleman.

He flip flopped on torture of prisoners, he was against it before he voted for it. This is a man who was tortured by the Vietnamese as a POW, he knows the effects of it personaly and up close. He knows it does NOT work as a good interview technique. Yet he rolled over for Bush/Cheney to let the C.I.A conduct enhanced interrogations (torture)  this is not the conduct of the US Military, we have been against it since we became signatories to the Geneva Convention. As an Officer he has failed the military of the United States with this vote.

The Six Articles of The Code of Conduct

I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense. I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender the members of my command while they still have the means to resist.

If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will
make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners.
I will give no information or take part in any action which might be
harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.

When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am required to give
only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering
further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or
written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to
their cause.

I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom,
responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my
country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

Simple rules, they are easy to understand, these are rules that hegrw up with in his home, his college (Navy Academy) and his military career. The "Duty, Honor and Country" that the military lives by, if the enlisted men get the idea that there officers do not believe in these statements, then why should they try and emulate them?

An officer has nothing but his word and his honor, when those are lost, then the soldiers, sailors under them lose confidence in the Chain of Command, with Senator McCains behavior in this campaign, the lies he has told, the choice of Governor Sarah Palin as the most qualified person he could find to be his choice as the Vice President, just proves he has no respect for this country, and he has proven it by selecting her to be the President in waiting if for some reason his heart or his brain ceases to function.

Charles Gibson spent more time interviewing Gov. Palin than Senator McCain did before announcing to the nation that Sarah is his choice for Vice President, think how the Joint Cheifs of Staff are going to respond to her, if shedoes become President, I imagine that most if not all will resign the day she becomes the Commander in Chief, she is totally unqualifed to lead the strongest Army in the world. Senator Clinton might be ready, but given her background and her time on the Senate Armed Services Committee, they would not be thinking about retiring if she was to become President.

The military is subject to the Uniformed Code of Military Justice known in the military as the UCMJ;

UCMJ  the laws that pertain

Any person subject to this chapter who, with intent to deceive, signs any false record, return, regulation, order, or other official document, knowing it to be false, or makes any other false official statement knowing it to be false, shall be punished as a court-martial may direct
(some of the ads he has approved to run against Senator Obama are nothing but lies, the sex ed ad, he is going to raise everyone's taxes, he called Sarah Palin a pig with lipstick) these are all false statements John McCain uttered or paid to have uttered, bottom line is the buck on these lies stops on Senator McCains desk.

(a) Any person subject to this chapter who wrongfully uses, possesses, manufactures, distributes, imports into the customs territory of the United States, exports form the United States, or introduces into an installation, vessel, vehicle, or aircraft used by or under the control of the armed forces a substance described in subsection (b) shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

(Senator McCain obtained a diplomatic passport so his wife Cindy could travel with the narcotics she was abusing thru airpaorts world wide and the customs agents in the places she visited could not search her baggage or purse under a diplomatic passport)  the military hold you responsible for your dependents actions, wfie and kids)

Any person subject to this chapter who uses provoking or reproachful words or gestures towards any other person subject to this chapter shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.
(McCains behavior along these lines are well documented)

  1. ART. 128. ASSAULT

(a) Any person subject to this chapter who attempts or offers with unlawful force or violence to do bodily harm to another person, whether or not the attempt or offer is consummated, is guilty of assault and shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

(b) Any person subject to this chapter who--

(1)commits an assault with a dangerous weapon or other means or force likely to produce death or grievous bodily harm; or

(2) commits an assault and intentionally inflicts grievous bodily harm with or without a weapon; is guilty of aggravated assault and shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.
(when he pushed that woman in the wheel chair because he was mad about the POW/MIA hearings)

Senator McCain is NOT a gentlemen and he is a bad example for future officers, there is not an officer or enlisted that will be able to trust that he is telling them the truth, if he is elected President since he has shown a willingness to lie.

A President has to be perceived as honest, and Senator McCain has shown he is anything but honest, he is no longer considered a Gentlemen by the military, and for a man that wants and aspires to be the Commander in Chief he is showing all the reasons why he SHOULD NOT be elected to the highest office in this nation.

He is not honest nor is someone you can trust, the past 2 months have shown this.

He might have been an officer and a gentlemen, but he is not any longer, he should be ashamed and his mother should have told him that he has dishonored his father and grandfather.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
