It appears that the NY Times is refusing to knuckle under to the McCain campaign's whining about adverse coverage. This is a refreshing change. Hope it lasts.
Just look at the front page for a bruising follow-up on Rick Davis' Lobbying Ties!
At least someone in the press isn't distracted by the increasingly tarnished shininess of Sarah Palin.
Here is a quote:
One of the giant mortgage companies at the heart of the credit crisis paid $15,000 a month to a firm owned by Senator John McCain’s campaign manager from the end of 2005 through last month, according to two people with direct knowledge of the arrangement. The disclosure contradicts a statement Sunday night by Mr. McCain that the campaign manager, Rick Davis, had no involvement with the company for the last several years. Mr. Davis’s firm received the payments from the company, Freddie Mac, until it was taken over by the government this month along with Fannie Mae, the other big mortgage lender whose deteriorating finances helped precipitate the cascading problems on Wall Street, the people said.
Game, set and freaking match. Looks like the old familiar disarray of the McCain campaign is back in spades - at a very bad time.
Nice to see the NY Times actually grow a pair. Let's give them a pat on the back for insisting on pursuing this story.
Now, I'd like to see other news outlets pick up this story.
I'd also like to see the Obama campaign hit them with this like a sledgehammer.
