Dear Bill,
When my son was two years old, I pushed his stroller door-to-door campaigning for you in North Carolina. I worked the phones and I spent hours volunteering for your campaign. I wrote letters to editors and sang your praises to anyone who would listen. I was so proud to attend one of your inaugural events and I had tears in my eyes when I shook your hand that day. I was also among the first to contribute to the William J. Clinton Presidential Library. I proudly display the certificate I received thanking me for my donation on my office wall.
I was proud of the President you were and my support for you. Recently however, that pride and support have begun to wan. I have watched you, in appearance after appearance, put yourself and your personal pride above the country you claim to love. I have watched you become a bitter man who is unable to move beyond a personal disappoint and who would risk us losing this election to make a point -- that Hillary should have been the nominee. I have watched you offer luke warm support for the Democratic party nominee while at the same time refusing to say his name. Does this behavior remind you of anyone? Maybe how McCain acted in the debates last night?
Tomorrow morning, when you appear on Meet the Press, you have the opportunity to move beyond the petty politics you have engaged in this year. You have the opportunity to do the right thing for the country and for your party by giving Obama your full support. You have the opportunity to erase all the negativity that many of us feel after watching your performance on The View and other appearances where you have refused to use Obama's name or refused to say clearly and without any reservation, "I believe Barack Obama must be the next President of the United States."
Please, return to the President and the leader I support through two elections. Please leave behind the petty, bitter, and negativity debases that those of us who supported your and your presidency without reservation for so many years. Please, step up for your party and for your country. Isn't that what Hillary has asked the rest of us to do? Shouldn't you?
President Clinton the stakes are simply too high and the consequences of this election are far too grave for you to play petty politics at this stage. Show us that you haven't forgotten how to lead.
