I am someone who knows these Iraqi's well. They have been here no longer that 6 months, all trying years to come here through Syria and other countries. The obsession CD which was put in newspapers in just swing states was a scare tactic, pure and simple. This crime was the result of that.
I have been reading the Daily Kos for years but never written until now. I know those Iraqi's very well and the one woman she describes in her letter. I was there today with she and her children.
I have gotten to know and love her in just the few months that she has been here. She is bright, intelligent and as someone said to me, everyone that has met her is enchanted. She also has breast cancer at 31 years of age. I too have had cancer twice in the past year and that is what brought us together.
She is brave beyond words, a widow with two adorable girls. She has lost a breast to cancer and has undergone chemotherapy and now radiation. She is a miracle to me, and for me, has given me a purpose in life aside from making sure Obama wins the election.
I can not say how I admire the refugees who come here to escape a country devestated by our war. If the people who did this could know these people as I do, not for their headscarves and different ways, they would never have done this. It was blind hatred.
I sat with her daughters tonight and told them not to be scared, there were bad people all over but here in America they were loved. I want that to be true.
The woman that wrote that letter to me this morning, she too is very brave and tireless. A wonder that the Iraqi's in this town love. I can not change this war but I can do a little something to make up for the destruction we have caused.
Thank you.
