and for Mark Warner, and for Jim Moran, and for local officials and local bond issues.
Arlington has early in-person absentee voting on the first floor of the building holding county offices. I was only there for about 5 minutes to be checked out, and then to vote. While I was there at least 6 other people voted, counting those there when I arrived and those behind me when I left.
They were prepared for crowds: as I remember there were either four or five of out tone-screen voting machines.
You must give a valid reason to vote absentee in Virginia, but simply planning to be out of the Counthy/city where you vote for the entire day is sufficient.
How did it feel?
It was the end of a long day, during which I was filmed while teaching for a promotional film for National Board Certification. They also interviewed me on camera.
The strangest thing was having a camera real close to my face as I taught. And I could not help but worry if I should have checked how long my noise hairs were!!
But any worries about my appearance disappeared when I voted. One more vote for turning Virginia blue. Here in Arlington we hve our 80-80 plan: we want to turn out 80% of those registered and 80% of those for Obama. The second may actually be low, given that in some recent elections the Democratic share of the vote has been 70%.
So I have fulfilled my most important civic duty, and now will be free to help turn out others for theirs.
How about you?
