TUKE CUTS LAMAR LEAD IN HALF
Tuke doubles name recognition and favorable ratings among Tennessee voters
One-third of likely voters rate Alexander "unfavorable"
NASHVILLE - Bob Tuke, candidate for U.S. Senate, has cut incumbent Senator Lamar Alexander's lead in half since June to a slim 50% - 38% margin, according to a recent poll conducted by Global Strategy Group.
Just three percentage points - well within the margin of sampling error - separate Tuke and Alexander in a re-vote asked after voters hear brief biographical information about Bob Tuke. Tuke garners 43% vote support to Alexander's 46%.
With a 37 point jump in statewide name recognition, 76% of 600 likely voters who responded are familiar with the Tuke campaign. Tuke's favorable rating among likely voters has nearly doubled from 17% to 33%.
Meanwhile, Senator Alexander's favorable rating has tumbled -8% while his unfavorable rating has increased by 11%.
One-third of likely voters now view the incumbent Republican as "unfavorable", in light of his recent urging to swiftly provide a $700 billion check to the Bush administration without calling for adequate oversight to protect taxpayers.
"We are out to let Tennesseans know that Lamar Alexander may not be who they think he is, and voters are responding in a big way.
"Senator Alexander must answer for voting against Medicare eight times, against a new G.I. Bill for American veterans, and supporting bad trade deals that have cost Tennessee workers nearly 43,000 manufacturing jobs.
"A referendum is emerging throughout Tennessee, and Senator Alexander will have to answer for his voting record, which has favored special interests over Tennessee interests time and time again," said Tuke.
