  I highly doubt this man is a racist -- if he is he's a closet racist whose done a good job hiding it over the past 20 years in the public eye.

  One thing no one will explain to me is if this guy is a raging racist why the hell would he want to end the war on drugs and the no tolerance drug laws which overwhelmingly keeps minorities behind bars? You'd think he'd be backing such measures that target inner city minorities and affects their quality of life probably more than any other issue.

  But, hey he's a racist -- anything other than actually discussing real issues.

    3.   Hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

    Some of his comments throughout the years hint of some extreme prejudice, which, in my mind, extend all the way to racism.  

    I don't think he wears sheets and burns crosses in yards, but he's old, from Texas, and very conservative.  I'm from Texas, know lots of people from his generation, etc.  While not scientific, I know what I know, and that coupled with his own statements forms my opinion.

    1.  Ron Paul's opposition to the drug war is because he opposes everything.  It could be the most racially equittable program on Earth, and he would still oppose it, because it isn't mentioned in the constitution.

    2.  Ron Paul doesn't oppose the drug war, he only opposes it at a federal level.

    3.  Pretty much all of the things that minorities are being arrested for would still be ilegal.  Net result?  Zero.

          There's nothing wrong with admitting mistakes and making apologies.  It also doesn't mean you have to change your ideas or opinions on the issue at hand, because the issue of calling racism for the smallest of infractions is certainly valid, however in the case of RP, it's a little tough to miss the Ron Paul newsletter text that's been around here.
