Top Comments 1-17-08 - Could it be true??
Thu Jan 17, 2008 at 07:00:51 PM PDT
I've been doing Top Comments for a while - over a year now. Our faithful recordkeeper (or search maven) sardonyx tells me that I have done at least one Top Comments diary each month for the last year, and that this diary is my fiftieth!
FIFTY Top Comments diaries?
I remember doing the first one and how nerve-wracking it was to get all the formatting right. No gremlins on my first try, though, so it was relatively easy. And I nearly fainted when I read who recommended my first effort - Meteor Blades!
Since then, times have changed, and so have I. The prospect of writing a Top Comments diary no longer makes me nervous, and I have learned comment mining shortcuts, and speed mining of my own design.
The biggest thing that I have gotten out of Top Comments, both as an author and as a commenter/occasional miner, is the warm community we are constantly growing here. With only a very few bumps in the conviviality, Top Comments is a safe haven from all of the rhetoric, the vitriol, the personal attacks, the candidate attacks, the .... well, you know.
Top Comments is simply the best place to hang out in the orange evenings here on Daily Kos. And if you haven't figured that out yet, come on in and set a while. You will see.
Thank you all for reading my blatherings, from my first effort to my fiftieth. Now, on to the comments!
Remember, we can't do Top Comments without you, so send those submissions to us at TopComments AT gmail DOT com. As always, make sure to include your Dkos username, so we know who gets the credit!
From imisa (This comment was submitted too late to make it into last night's diary.):
This comment addresses the current 'bane of our dkos existence' with eloquence as it highlights what we stand to lose if we don't get our act together soon.
From MissLaura:
Fred Fnord makes some important distinctions about who we want our candidates working for.
From condoleaser:
Heh.
From edgery:
Zeitshabba describes COM perfectly in this comment about how low our expectations are for Bill O'Reilly. Found in TomP's diary, Edwards: O'Reilly 'Has No Idea What He's Talking About':
Its only a new low...
From kath25:
Seeing as this is Top Comments and all, I nominate this interesting thread on the rate of comments per diaries and how to explain the increase, peopled by resident statistics-lovers dmsilev and plf515. At one point, donnamarie asks for some much-needed clarification, to which our stats lovers helpfully reply.
From lizpolaris:
Ed in Montana spotted the problem with highlighting UncommonSense's diary 'Global warming deniers silence Nobel laureate.'
It struck me as funny, maybe others will think so too.
From Spathiphyllum:
I'm nominating a thread from the purity troll diary:
Is Daily Kos a Fox News for Faux Liberals: 80% Say Yes
It involves a hilarious exchange by pucklady, freespeech, and Andrew C White.
From blueyedace2:
This one is icky, but then again so is David Broder.
From sardonyx:
ablington on Huckabee the panderer; some funny stuff here and downthread.
Femlaw notes a promise to do more with the U.N.
MeMeMeMeMe on what goes around, comes around.
From lineatus:
How many republicans does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Many answers, but my favorite comes from nrafter530.
My picks:
Two from ZappoDave's Huckleberry says: Let Them Eat Squirrels - first, this one by Dood Abides was too darned funny to pass up, and started a funny thread, too.
Sychotic1 tells us a story about a boy and a bull.
In Chris Matthews Trying to Save His Job, gypsy strikes a chord - or is it a funnybone?
In Eddie C's most excellent diary, China Declares War against Plastic Bags, Catte Nappe makes a good point regarding our addictions and I like the responses, too.
BeninSC was kind enough to provide Top Mojo for tonight:
