Last Sunday, Kossack KingOneEye (webmaster of News Corpse) initiated a huge fundraising campaign on behalf of John Edwards in this diary.
A massive goal of $7 million in one day was established. In KingOneEye's words:
So either Edwards could engage in a high speed police chase with Britney's kids on his lap and a missing white girl in the trunk, or he could raise $7 million dollars in one day.
Well Edwards supporters, that day has come (at least on the East Coast)! And I have one question for you - are you ready to make history?!
Throughout this 2008 Presidential campaign, John Edwards has been leading the Democratic crop of candidates with his deep progressive agenda. John has been the first to speak the truth on a myriad of issues, such as the shameful statistic of 200,000 homeless veterans (and successfully defending these veterans against the insulting attack from Bill O'Reilly), as well as the need to fight against greedy corporations that are destroying the middle class.
Los Angeles, California – Today, John Edwards visited Los Angeles as part of his three-day coast to coast tour. Greeted by a crowd of more than 1,000 supporters at the Southern California Public Service Workers' headquarters, Edwards called on voters to join him in his campaign to take our country back from powerful entrenched interests and make our government work for working families and the middle class. From January 17th to January 19th, Edwards will visit Nevada, California, Oklahoma, Missouri, Georgia and South Carolina to demonstrate his broad, coast to coast strength and his advantage as the best candidate to win the general election. As a sign of Edwards' growing strength in California, he was today endorsed by Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcón.
"To get real change, we need a president who will stand up against the big corporations and powerful interests who control Washington," said Edwards. "The American people – whether they live in rural areas or urban areas, red states or blue states – need a President who will stand up for them. As President, I will make sure the voices of all Americans are heard in Washington. If we fight together, we can get the change we need and America will rise."
For college-aged voters like myself, John is leading the way on affordable college education. He has proposed a comprehensive plan to make sure public higher education remains affordable for all students. And target number one - the private banks that make billions off of students every year through student loans:
Overhauling the Student Loan Program: Banks that make student loans receive large federal subsidies and a guarantee against default. However, millions of students have borrowed directly from the U.S. Department of Education, receiving loans that have very similar terms but are far less expensive for taxpayers. Edwards will let all students borrow directly from Education. By eliminating bank subsidies on student loans, he will free up almost $6 billion a year to make college more affordable. [CAP, 2006]
Many pundits are not paying any attention to John at all. As reported earlier today, John has been dropped by Survey USA based on their "judgment" that he is no longer a viable national candidate. On the Edwards campaign website is a new YouTube video detailing the media shutout of John and his progressive message.
Let's show the media that we are as strong as ever in our support for John Edwards! Today, we "Go For The Gold"!
Even though I'm only a college student, I kicked another $25. If you can donate more, please do so!
