Dark hours are ahead, but midnight's bright. ONE more year!

Sat Jan 19, 2008 at 09:29:13 AM PDT

Dark hours are near, but a MUCH brighter day is just around the corner.

One more year! One more year of George W. Bush, Inc.

(more below)

As I write this brief diary, we are approximately two hours and fourty-five minutes away from the close of the Nevada caucuses. All but perhaps  those just joining us today know exactly what that means: in three hours,  the floodgates of candidate bickering will open even wider.  Some of us will try to remain above the fray, some of us will gloat, and others will vow revenge.  Regardless of how these results turn out, we’ll soon have enough pies and pastries floating around to open a franchise of bakeries.

Why do I point out the obvious and dwell on the negative:  because we all have an opportunity to minimize the bitterness this afternoon.  No matter who we’re aligned with today, let us not forget tomorrow:  January 20, 2008.

ONE MORE YEAR OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION NIGHTMARE!!!

As passionately as we argue for our respective candidates, let’s remember that we have this in common.  Tomorrow we start ticking off the final year of a dark period, `and while our opinions on Nevada will vary widely, this cause for celebration is something perhaps all of us can rally around.

is that he is in complete denial as to just how bad his administration has been for the vast majority of the people in this country..it has been great for the power elite..but for the average person..he truly has been a nightmare...and he does not care..that is what is so shocking...he does not care about the people he has tortured in Guantanamo or Abut Garaib..or other secret prisons around the world..instead he has worked to cover his ass..

That is what disturbs me about this election year..we don't hear too much from the candidates about the torture thing...our violations of human rights..hmm..

While I could guess this will become a bigger issue in the general election, the focus is getting shifted to the economy, and there seems to be a more aggressive PR campaign to push these things under the rug.

On the other hand, others are coming out to speak...Tom Ridge, for instance, as detailed in another recent diary.  Senior intelligence officials have expressed reservations or rejection.. (names escaping me w/ 3 hours sleep) and ..of course...we've got Canada listing us and Israel as torture states in the last week..
Maybe it takes a few more media black eyes to bring this back, or pressure on candidates and the punditoids...

Many angles on that.  Seems to me that much of the actual candidate discussion calmed down when Biden and Dodd dropped.

If we don't make an issue of it, we can be almost certain John McCain will if he emerges as the nominee.  He's already butting heads with his own on the matter, and wouldn't hesitate to pick up the high ground there if we ceded it.
