The experience that brought me to John Edwards

We all know how cold it is in Iowa. How cold it is in America, in these trying days. Well I had an experience that was chilling to the core I thought I should share, that has brought me over to Edwards.
I've always been a staunch Obama supporter, but something happened to me today. In the start of winter in the relatively mild Alabama, it was time for me ot pay my water and gas bills. It is a time I dread every month as I pull out my checkbook and try to get the money in on time. On this day I handle my bills on an all too short break from work. Luckily there is a post box at the front of the office park.
As I pull up, bills in hand, I roll down my window to pay those bills by dropping them in the box. I immediately feel the chill. The harsh cold of Winter. Usually mild in Alabama. But this day is different. The wind pierces at my very skin, as I reach from my small car to try and deposit my mail. But something occurs. One envelope falls in and another flies out of my hand. I don't see where it went. Worse, I don't know which one it was. Would I face the prospect of no water in the middle of a drought, or no heat in the middle of a cold spike?
My only recourse was to get out of my car and search among the vast business park, icy air piercing through my clothes, the one day I forgot a jacket. I give myself a spiraling search pattern to try to hit every location my letter could have landed, but am afraid the wind would move it much too fast. As I look, I'm surrounded by industry and corporation. As I walk, I feel the chill air hit me. Is it the winter or is it the corporations, I think. And then I think about Iowa, and how cold it is there, both literally and figuratively.
And the one guy out in that cold, fighting it. John Edwards out in the cold on his 36 hour marathon, fighting not just the Iowa cold, but the cold of the uncaring corporations. The same corporations that would cut either my water or gas, depending on if I could find the bill before the Postal Service arrived to pick up mail, regardless of any good explanation. I felt the cold of winter, and knew John Edwards was fighting it. Edwards was the only candidate who ever said anything about how corporations are bad. And he was also the only one who had ever been cold before, like me. And both of those things are things that I agree with. It was all so simple.
As I thought about the election more, all the similarities John Edwards had to my ideal candidate shone brightly. John Edwards dad worked in a mill. My father always liked cereal from General Mills. John Edwards has a southern accent, just like me. Most importantly John Edwards is the only person in the entire world brave enough to take extremely popular policy positions when running for a primary. So now I know who I must support. John Edwards, he truly is the son of God.
