Will the Giants Get Slaughtered: Poll

Sun Jan 20, 2008 at 09:35:06 PM PDT

I remain in shock at the Giants' upset of Brett Favre's Packers.

As a resident of NYC but a native of NoVa, I am and will always be a Redskins fan (let the jokes commence - my middle name is Pathetic).

However, I will be rooting for New York when they face Brady's Juggernaut in Arizona. Especially because I have an ex who lives in Boston. She thinks she's so hot!!! But I digress.

Let your CHOICE be known below. We all know who's going to win - this poll is for you to voice your preference.

I'm normally a "Gints" hater (can't stand that goofy Manning family look on either Eli's or Peyton's face when they lose), but I'm rooting for them big time come the SB.

And this was the first game in awhile where I said, "Eli actually won this game for them all the way through."

If the NY defense can play like they did tonight, they have a shot.

Grew up in Brooklyn, live in NoVA.

That makes me a Jets fan. Giants are the next big thing.

Being a Jets fan who suffered through college in Boston I would sooner wear a "Huckabee" jersey than wear a "Patriots" jersey.

Actually, kinda the intersection between Crown Heights and Flatbush.

When there was that "unrest" in the 80's with Al Sharpton....I lived only a few blocks from the spot where the ambulance took the orthodox kid to the hospital but left the black kid there to (eventually) die.

That place was the best example I've seen before or since of a place with lots of "different" people living together, yet still segregated. Weird.

Afterall, 18 in a row.. the law of averages has to catch up at some point.

BUT, they will lose in my opinion.

    •  If the Giants can play just a little better (0+ / 0-)

Than the Chargers, they'll win it. The Chargers only problem was they couldn't get it into the end zone. Brady's not unstoppable, hell, he threw three interceptions today.

Even going into the game, that was a major concern. Giants played well in hostile territory, in horrible conditions. No opponant in a playoff game had ever hit a field goal longer than 40 yards in Green Bay before.

  •  This matchup fits the Super Bowl blowout pattern (4+ / 0-)

    Recommended by:

When one conference has its clearly-best team win the conference championship, and the other conference has a surprising underdog sneak its way into the Super Bowl, the result is usually a blowout.  Think Broncos vs. Falcons, 49ers vs. Chargers.

As much as I hate the idea of Hoodie Boy slouching his way through a blowout with that smug smirk on his ugly face, that is probably what will happen.

There's no way for both teams to lose. Though if I'm absolutely forced to pick one, I'll have to go with the Giants. My disdain for Eli Manning is outweighed by my absolute disgust with the Patriots (SpyGate, classless behavior, Junior Seau).

..that was thoroughly investigated?  When it was determined that there really wasn't anything that the Pats could get out of the tape that they couldn't get in other sanctioned ways, the fine was the only penalty that they had to deal with.

        ie, there's no 'there' there.

More power to you. I'm right there with you. NY deserves a win, and Eli needs a break from living in his brother's spotlight.

But we're facing the football equivalent of '40 FDR, and we are very likely to lose big. That said, if we win, I'll be the first to join you in celebration! :)

came purty darn close to knockin' the Pats off their pedestal with their friggin' backup quarterback just a coupla months back (a three point game, I think?). Invincible they ain't, and if ya bet on NE, don't go spendin' your winnin's just yet.  That bein' said, a 3 touchdown Pats blowout wouldn't shock me none.  Go Giants!

I could go on and on...

today was sweet redemption for 1961 and 1962. The Giants finally beat the Packers in a title game!

It would have been better if the Colts had managed to take the AFC and the Giants would then have had a chance to avenge 1958.

But this is pretty good. I fear it will be a New England win but I have some hope after the Giants victories vs Tampa, Dallas (ha!) and Green Bay (ha!).

that weird shit always goes down at Super Bowls, making anything hard to predict.

I see a couple of potential scenarios unfolding.

One of them is NOT a Giants blow out.

    1. The Pats beat an inspired Chargers team on the strength of their defense. That, plus P. Rivers was too banged up to go long. PLUS, LT was hurt.  Thus, they could not get the ball into the end zone.  Moreover, the Pats vaunted offense is limping into the Super Bowl.

We know the old adage about wounded animals. They are the most dangerous. This creates a volatile situation where the Giants are concerned. New England's offense is overdue for an explosive performance. Randy Moss is WAY overdue for a huge game. Moreover, this could be ugly. If the offense gets going, forcing the Giants to pass every down, the Pats' defense will outscore the Giants offense in the second half.

    1. The Giants have alot of momentum coming into this game. What gave them that momentum? Nearly beating the Pats in Week 17 of the regular season. They know they CAN beat them.  If they can play good defense, and if Brandon Jacobs can run the ball effectively enough, and if Eli can avoid turnovers, the Giants might be able to keep Brady & company off the field enough to give themselves a real shot at this.  Even in a close game, I think the Pats have an advantage – call it the Brady factor. But it could end up being a close game.

What I don't see, again, is the Giants ever blowing out the Patriots. Then again, Strahan or Tuck might knock Brady out of the game at which point all bets are off.

So, I stand by my initial comment. This shit's just too weird to predict. We've got two good teams, and both of them are well coached and full of veteran players.

Do I want to see history? I saw it in 1972 with the Dolphins. I'd love to see it again.

Oh, and for all of you Washington Foreskins fans out there tonight, I wish you'd change your racist mascot.

I love the smell of impeachment in the morning!

    I guess....but the dudes win.

I was a Browns fan born and bred, until the NFL let Lucifer Arthur B. Modell take his franchise to Baltimore so he could pay off the debts he incurred from brilliant moves like signing Andre Rison to a bazillion dollar contract.  Rot in Hades, overnor Glendenning!

What I meant to say was, the Pats aren't my team, but I respect excellence when I see it.

I also respect a team that beats the Cowflops and the Packers on the road.  New England ain't no lock.

...and it appears that for right now I can't search the comment archives here, so I'll just have to assure you that my BCS predictions (read: real football...heh...) were almost scarily accurate...I even picked Kansas, and my BCS championship prediction would have been down to the exact point if it wasn't for the fact that LSU let up a bit once they had the game won...

That being said - and my personal prejudice aside (I'm rooting for the Giants...)...

I'm going to say that the Giants win, 24-20.

Make of it what you will...and 2 weeks from tonight, after the Giants win by roughly the same score, I will permanently bookmark this prediction to prove my greatness...heh...

  •  New England will win (0+ / 0-)

Chargers fan here (and quite proud of that fact).  New England just has too many weapons.  Brady is almost untouchable in the pocket, as he has too many high quality wide receivers.

I give the Giants great applause for beating all their opponents down the stretch.  But I don't thing the Giants can beat the "Giants" of this season, the NE Patriots.

I want Schula and the whole bunch to disappear into well-deserved obscurity.

That being said, I think it will be a close game. Giants have shown they hang it there. And Burress seems to be asserting himself.

Green Bay caught Bears disease this year--overachieving in a weak division and overall weak conference. Reality catches up sooner or later. They will be lucky to make playoffs next yr.

  •  I've got to go with the Giants (0+ / 0-)

because I want folks to get off Eli's ass for not being Payton or Archie.

I'm also a younger sibling who had to live up to unrealistic expectations, set in my case by an older sister who could do no wrong in my mother's eyes. (Oddly enough, now that she's gone my siblings seem to be a bit more tolerant of my little idiosyncrasies and eccentricities -- makes me wonder exactly what she said about me behind my back.)

Plus, the sports media is talking about Tom Brady being the best post-season QB of all time, and I've still got fond memories of Joe Montana (and the late Bill Walsh had more class in his little toe than Belichick will ever have)...
