        and Al Gore was on TV doing his round of interviews discussing how bad that was.  Obama also continued voting for war funding the 2 years before announcing his run for Presidency and he voted for the Patriot Act 2.

        I won't get in to his votes for Nuclear Energy and we know how Al Gore feels about that.  And during the summer debate, when they asked what Obama what personal changes he has made, he said "my campaign planted 1000 trees [for the Step It Up event].  Narrator reiterated, No you personally, Obama said "Oh, come on.  I thought that was good.  Well, I'm thinking about changing some lightbulbs with my two daughters".

        And then of course, he didn't do himself any favors when he slammed Gore a few weeks ago.

          It was a modestly improved version. Only 9 Democrats voted against it, i.e. other 35-40 voted for it.

          bill (or maybe an amendment?) that was pro-CTF, but then pulled that after objections from environmentalists, so it appears that he listened and learned.  The first time I am aware of Gore publicly stating he would have voted no on funding in Iraq without timelines for withdrawal was May 2007, which was the first funding bill that Clinton and Obama voted against.  I have no idea if prior to that he was in agreement with their thinking about whether to refuse further funding.  Yes, I agree that Gore would have voted no on Patriot Act renewal, since not long before he had called for rescinding the Patriot Act altogether.  Al  has expressly stated that he believes there is likely a role for nuclear energy in meeting the world's energy needs.  He said it in his Senate testimony.

          I don't know what you are referring to when you talk about Obama slamming Gore a few weeks ago, and I would have thought I would have heard about that.  Can you tell me what you mean?  I would like to know about this.

          Although Obama may have made light about personal efforts, you know Al had a big BBQ not long ago and served everyone water in small plastic bottles, so the fact is that no one is perfect.  I know Al does a lot and is pretty damned close, but he's the first on to admit that he's far from perfect in his everyday behavior and that individual purity is not really the point.

          I think you really are misunderstanding the concept of what "basic values" are all about when you provide a laundry list of policy differences (some accurate and some less accurate) and something about changing lightbulbs.  That's not the metes and bounds of basic values.  Having read Assault on Reason and Dreams From My Father, I feel pretty sure that Gore's basic values and Obama's basic values are pretty well-aligned, even if they are in different places in  the personal and professional journeys of their lives.  It was not that long ago that I felt like had to hold my nose a bit to vote for Al because he was quite the DLC centrist.  But I always liked his underlying thoughtfulness and approach.  And lo and behold, once free from the shackles of politics, he has really shown that all that was keeping that underlying thoughtfulness from full blossom was the constraints of trying to build a political career.  There are constraints, too.  Dennis Kucinich, for example, will never rise higher than he is, and so politically he will never be able to influence our policy choices in a significant way.

              My points of him walking the talk are all true however you wish to put out small details to try to refute the facts.

              I'm happy Obama bought an E85, it shows all can make an effort eventually.

    It set a spark under the blogs and news outlets. The NYTimes blog said something like, "What is he doing releasing this now?" [Which, BTW, has now been changed and I didn't get a screenshot capture of that statement.]

    The video is getting like 200 hits per hour right now.  I'd bet it will increase exponentially as more and more people share it with friends.

  the lives of his family members to head this failing country of ours.  Al Gore has decided, IMHO, that he can create more change and do more good in the private forum, working with gigantic corporations to embrace alternative energy sources, without having to fight the fossil fuel industry day in and day out while dealing with all the s**t that Bush and Cheney will leave behind for the next president of these United States.

  I'm following Al Gore's lead every single day, from turning off my CFLs when I'm not in the room to recycling everything in my home and my business to driving as necessary in my Toyota Prius Hybrid that gets 40.9mpg.
