The Savage Weiner Burns

Wed Jan 23, 2008 at 06:46:58 PM PDT

(My apologies if this has already been diaried; if so, I'll delete. I couldn't find it if it has...)

One of Hate Radio's most f***ed up personalities, Michael "Weiner" Savage is not having a good day. A campaign that was launched by  Brave New Films is having a most desireable effect. Sponsors like  Intuit,   Chattem,   ITT Technical Institute and   Union Bank are all pulling ads from Mr. Weiner's "Savage Nation" radio talk show. Just a few reasons why below the fold.

If you've never heard Michael Savage (whose real name is Michael Weiner... but seriously; who'd take THAT name seriously?) then consider yourself lucky because he really is a ranting, reich-wing lunatic. And we all know what that means: He's quite popular in Wingnuttia Land.

According to The Wiki, Savage's nationally syndicated radio show: "reaches more than 10 million listeners on 410 stations throughout the United States, ranking third in number of stations syndicated nationwide and third in nationwide audience behind Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity".

This is a man who characterized his radio persona as being "To the right of Rush and to the left of God." Let's take a (very!) brief tour into the mind of one of our leading "Compassionate Conservatives" by reading just a few of his quotes:

"90 percent of the people on the Nobel Committee are into child pornography and molestation, according to the latest scientific studies"

On MLK Day, Savage called civil rights a "racket" designed to steal "white males' birthright

To "save the United States," lawmakers should institute "outright ban on Muslim immigration" and on "the construction of mosques"

Citing more sex-change operations, increased lesbian fertility clinics, Savage said of 9-11: "That was God speaking"

"Jimmy Carter is like Hitler"

That ought to give you an idea. There's more on this story over at Huffpo. It couldn't hurt to  support the folks at Brave New Films - who've helped make Weiner's advertisers see the light - if you feel so inclined.

I believe in free speech but Weiner can't spew his hate for free - he's got to eat and pay his bills. Let's hit him where it hurts, in his pocketbook, by letting advertisers aligned with the "Savage Nation" know how we feel. It's time for that celebratory "Burnt Weiner Sandwich" now - with apologies to Frank Zappa - because a bad day for Michael Savage is a good day for us.
