File under, Things I'd Love To See Happen But Don't Know How To Do Myself, So I'm Asking For Your Help:
Have you ever watched politicians or pundits or people on television and thought, "Dammit, that's so misleading/false/irrelevant, someone ought to say something to refute it"?
I'll assume you have, and propose an idea based on that irritation. There's a show called Mystery Science Theater 3000 (or MST3K for short) in which silhouettes of robots appear at the bottom of footage of bad sci-fi movies and make wisecracks at the dialogue and events of the on-screen action. There's another show called Pop-Up Video where music videos play, and information pops up in cartoon-esque thought bubbles. The additional information ranges from snarky asides to additional contextual information about something in the video. Don't these seem like they'd be useful in political television?
I want to see someone do the same kind of thing to political debates, and maybe press conferences, talking-head shows, and political coverage (depending on how easy/complex this is). I have no idea how the logistics would work (animation/editing, re-broadcast rights, how it'd get out into the public eye, etc.), but what I do have is the mental picture of George W. Bush stammering through a press conference or debate and asserting his usual combination of lies, half-truths, and non sequiturs to avoid reality, and someone (since the media doesn't seem up to it) nailing him for it.
If this sounds like a good idea (or at least like a potentially good idea), chime in below with votes and/or thoughts...
Thanks.
