Shut up, Tucker

Thu Jan 24, 2008 at 04:52:30 PM PDT

Really, just shut the hell up. Get off the TV, you loser. And, while you're at it, take the rest of the dinosaurs with you.

I watch you occasionally, just to be amused at how utterly stupid and inflammatory a person can be, and still make a living as a "pundit". But you and yours are crossing the lines of common decency.

Tucker and his cohorts are trying to divide the Democrats along racial lines. They are trying to portray Democrats as being as racist and bigoted as Republicans, but we all know better. These demagogues, with their bully pulpits, and access to millions of homes and car radios, don't like the real story, so they are compelled to create the story. They will take any utterance, any nuance, any atom of any cherry-picked comment by Bill Clinton, or by some member of a candidate's staff, and twist it into a "subtle" racial attack.

Perhaps Tucker should remember that John Edwards is a native of South Carolina, which may help explain why the polls among whites are being kind to Edwards in that state. But, no; Tucker and his brain trust blame it on simple racism.

Perhaps the "racial divide" among South Carolinians polled is due to the fact that Hillary is better-known by white voters, and more trusted than Obama. Maybe it's just politics, Tucker, and not bigotry at all.

Perhaps Obama is stronger among black voters because FINALLY they have a candidate, after some 230 years, who is giving the status quo something new to think about. Perhaps black voters DO have something to be proud of, and I certainly don't blame them for supporting a black candidate, and especially a candidate who is fully qualified and capable of handling the job. Black voters have had virtually no other realistic choice but white candidates since they were FINALLY granted the right to vote. If this can be at all construed as "racism", it is not a negative kind; it's a proud kind, and there is one hell of a big difference.

Friends, Democrats, Liberals... please do not let these vapid opinionists turn our party, our philosophy, our ideology, into THEM. Don't let them drag us into a quagmire of racism and in-fighting over the color of a candidate's skin. They are desperately trying to do just that.

These mongers of hate would love nothing better than to rip us apart from the inside. Their empty-headed fans will undoubtedly fall for it, so the main thing we're going to hear for the next several weeks, or months, is that one candidate or the other won the nomination largely because he or she was able to capitalize on the bigotry of the American people.

But, no; that's how Republicans win elections. I will not be sucked into that game. When I am for or against a candidate, I will make it unmistakably clear that it is because of issues, records, and policies, and not because of something as shallow as skin pigment.

I apologize for the rant, but these wingnuts disgust me, and I can't help myself. There is little doubt that race AND sex are factors among some voters, which makes 2008 a potentially earth-shaking year for the USA. But we can't let 'them' turn it into a negative. We should recognize and celebrate the differences, the fresh air, the new perspectives, the utterly positive impact it will have on this nation if the tradition of electing old white men to the office of President is finally broken. This time, we have a buffet of prime candidates from which to choose, and I WILL NOT be dragged down to the level of these haters.

If I'm wrong, tell me I'm wrong, because I'm here to learn.

  •  This also re-inforces what Bill said yesterday (9+ / 0-)

that the media is driving this story a lot more than the candidates are.  Bill said, from the reports I have read today, nothing about this and did not get any audience questions on it.  You know how to stop the focus on race??? Stop covering it or fanning the flames.

When it comes to speaking about the economy Hillary has been doing so all year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCRWiIp46Wc

I've seen few attacks along racial lines this week from either camp.

I'd like to hope that even on days when we are at each other's throats over the trival primary stuff, we remember that we are the good guys of the country.

We support racial equality and civil rights.  We are all working toward Dr. King's dream and cementing his legacy of a country that is moving forward on race relations toward the promise land.

  •  Are you sure you know who's at fault here? (5+ / 0-)

Nobody watches Tucker Carlson's crummy show, and I have to think even those who do take it no more seriously than Jerry Springer's chairfights.

The ones who injected race into the Democratic campaign were the Clintons, trying to ghettoize the Democratic vote into race vs. gender, a divide Hillary would automatically win.  The negativity and divisiveness came into the campaign when Hillary came in third in Iowa, and her campaign decided to shake up the race to bring Obama off his pedestal.

Tucker Carlson has no more influence on the Democratic primaries than you or I do.  Soon, I hope, he'll be off to his stupid game show and I'll be TIVOing Rachel Maddow's new show.

I can't expect to live in a democracy if I'm not prepared to do the work of being a citizen.

    •  If this is true (0+ / 0-)

why does the new Arg poll show Obama getting 25% of the white vote. That is among 3 canidantes. Among the black vote he gets 71%. Who is voteing along racial lines, the whites or the blacks?

    •  umm, no.. they simply didn't do this-- at all - (0+ / 0-)

the Obama campaign cynically exploited the race issue (memo to staff) after a few dumb comments and media pile-on: they were caught red-handed when Tim Russert read the actual Obama campaign memo during the Nevada debate on national tv.

The Obama campaign was trying to push the racial divide (always artificial), until caught blatantly pushing it, while all the time blaming the Clintons.

It's not just him. I also listen to Hannity and Levin, and they're doing the same things.

It's hard to stomach, but it's even harder to stomach the fact that millions of people actually ARE influenced by these clowns.

the only thing is that he's putting too much stock in one poll all other polls show Obama getting about 20% of the White SC vote. His point about the Clintons playing race like a fiddle following Iowa is obvious. They are using the fact that blacks are voting for Obama to paint him as the "black candidiate".  It looks like the Clintons may get lucky afterall, the GOP might rather lose with Romney then have the party redefined with McCain.

After Obama's eighth straight victory, Penn told reporters: "Winning Democratic primaries is not a qualification or a sign of who can win the general election.

MSNBC is on the pathing to be the 'liberal network'.  Why is that bad, you say?  Because I don't want the Olbermann Network being marginalized as the lefty POV as Fox is marginalized as the right POV.  A few Repugs I know already think MSNBC is the left network.  I want our voice heard and that means giving the impression of being centrist.

I know many here find Matthews as the personification of evil (of the Right) but I have seen him progress mightily in our direction.  Anyone who actually watches his show knows how anti-Bush he is. CM is political animal, he will migrate to wherever the conflict is.  Yeah he hates the Clintons, but so do I.

Keep the weak righty.  I think him and all his wingnuttery in place is more a help than a hurt.  Show more a of contrast and why KO is correct and sane.

Tweety had on Tucker and 2 black radio talk show hosts or reporters or pundits, I didn't get their names.  Both Matthews and Tucker kind of cornered these 2 South Carolinians and tried to get them to say that the Clintons made this primary campaign all about race.  Both pundits would not admit this and said that people in SC don't see it this way and are only voting on issues.  Well, Matthews was so mad at them because they wouldn't agree with him and Tucker.  He yelled at the reporter and tried to bully him into agreeing with him.  Both pundits from SC didn't cave.  It was great.  Tucker and Matthews are jerks.

    •  See, that's what I mean (0+ / 0-)

Of the people I work with, and the people I see every day, it's ONLY the republicans who beat the obvious dead horse -- that Obama is black, and Hillary is female.

I just hate to see this election lowered to that.

Maybe my point of view is too subjective, or optimistic, or naive, but I like to think we're better than that.

...of how to slap around Tucker Carlson. Back when he wore that silly bowtie, I'd want to grab him by it and slap him around. Now, I think I'll settle for stuffing his head in a toilet and flushing it, giving him a swirly.
