Al Giordano of THE FIELD Hints: Gore to Endorse Obama
Sun Jan 27, 2008 at 02:29:49 PM PDT
Over on THE FIELD, Al Giordano's primary blog, the proprietor has just suggested that his more famous namesake will soon be endorsing Barack Obama.
For those of you who haven't been following it, THE FIELD has been among the most compelling reads on this year's primary race. Giordano has been doing some great reporting. And he's not afraid of making bold predictions. Some have been right--he called the Iowa results and the South Carolina Democratic delegate count--some have been wrong--he blew the New Hampshire Democratic Primary. But his predictions about endorsements have generally been on the mark. He called Kerry. He called Kennedy. He called Sebelius.
And now he's hinting like crazy that Al Gore is going to be on the campaign trail soon for Obama.
Now, obviously this is just a prediction. I doubt Giordano would be making it if he didn't have some solid reason for doing so. My guess is that predicting endorsements involves more old-fashioned reporting than the tea-leaf reading of electoral result prediction. An any rate, Giordano's an excellent reporter and a generally reliable source. It's only a prediction, he could be wrong, but he's not just blowing smoke.
Here's Giordano's not very subtle Gore hint from his post on the Ted Kennedy endorsement:
Okay, let’s drop another hint for those taking notes: What famous Tennessean might we see soon from California to New York Island, so soon after getting out ahead of his party’s presidential candidates to support gay marriage?
In the death of a thousand cuts, some cuts are deeper than others.
Obviously, this would be huge. Endorsements usually don't move many votes. But I think it's fair to say that, in the 2008 Democratic primary race, the Gore endorsement might be a big exception.
(Standard disclaimers apply here: I don't have any dog in this fight. I'm a Green. But while I'm a recovering Democrat, I'm a completely off-the-wagon political junkie. I love this stuff.)
