Poll: Who Has Made Up/Changed Their Minds in the Past Week?

I've seen a lot of diary entries lately from people who have recently made up or changed their minds about who to support in the primaries, and I thought we could try to quantify it with a poll. Please vote if you have made a decision or changed your mind in the past week, and don't live in a state that has already had its Democratic primary. Feel free to post comments, particularly stating why you changed and what state you are voting in, but please don't let this get ugly. I just thought it would be a fun, totally unscientific gage of the mood among netroots activists.

I hope this doesn't seem like a shameless plug, but if people who think this is interesting could recommend it, we could keep it up longer and get more responses.

  My initial plan was to write-in Gore.

  And then decided to vote for edwards, since he's saying all the things I want to hear.  But with the Clinton/Obama race so close, it seems a waste to just do an issue vote.

  So now I'm totally baffled.

    While dismissing suggestions that this implied Edwards had accepted he was out of contention for the nomination, Deputy Campaign Manager Jonathan Prince said the candidate would probably get enough delegates to play a decisive role in tipping the Democratic nomination under party rules.

    Party insiders could also give Edwards the nomination at a brokered convention if they judged him more electable in a match-up against GOP front-runner Sen. John McCain (Ariz.). "At a brokered convention, all bets are off," said Prince.

    Prince told reporters in a conference call that in "a worst-case scenario" Edwards would control 20 to 25 percent of the Democratic delegates heading into the convention. He predicted that Sens. Barack Obama (Ill.) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) would each have 35 to 40 percent of the delegates, well short of half the 4,049 needed to win the nomination.

          I've supported Kucinich from the start.  When he formally pulled out,   I looked at the polling for Edwards in Florida, and saw that he was somewhere around 15%.  I made a tactical decision, and voted for Edwards.

          But I was sooo tempted to vote for Gravel.

      Just to take the counter-argument. Right now, one of Hillary's strategies is to drive soft Obama supporters into Edwards' camp, since she has little chance of winning them over.

  I've gone from undecided to Edwards after the SC debate and since SC vote have decided Obama is my second choice.

  •  I was torn between Edwards and Obama

    but ultimately decided to go with Obama, not just because of the odds but because I found his speech Saturday night really inspiring and I really think he is what this party and this country needs. Someone who can appeal to our best instincts rather than our worst, to our hopes rather than our fears, to what unites us instead of what divides us. As a young voter, I really want a candidate whom my less political friends will get off their butt and vote for, and based on the exit polls in the early states, there is every indication that Obama could be that candidate.

      I have contributed to both of them, and would have voted for Edwards if I could have, but after Saturday, I switched to Obama.  A few months ago I got an Obama 08 poster in the mail.  I hung it on my bulletin board, just in case he got the nomination.  Now I'll put it in my window or in the yard.

•  I changed my mind AFER I voted

  I had been on the fence for the last year between all 3 of the main candidates. Back and forth, I went.  But then I started supporting Hillary (I know, I know, but I really wanted a woman president and I worked for Bill in DC at Interior and was happy with that).  

  I always liked Obama, but I was worried about getting him through the general election.  Worried because I was unsure how he would hold up to being swift-boated. Then last week, when the Clintons started with the crap, I gave up on her for good. That, combined with Obama's two victory speeches sealed the deal.

  Unfortch, I voted several weeks ago.

  I will repent by campaigning hard for Obama.

    I got off the fence the other night and started making phone calls. I am considering donating, but in a race where the candidates are raising $100 million, it's hard to feel like $50 is going to make a difference. But a lot of Obama's contributions have been raised from small donors, so I know that attitude is stupid.

  Any of the Democrats is OK by me. I will probably not vote. Each of the candidates displays major strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I would be happiest with an Administration that contained all three: Obama as President, Hillary as VP, and Edwards as AG. That's a bit of a fantasy, I know, but it would be a remarkable assemblage of talent, and a very dynamic one.

    I like the idea of Obama as President and Edwards as AG. Not really sure what Clinton would add to the ticket as VP though. I think Richardson would be a better choice for Obama, assuming that the allegations of womanizing are false. He brings experience and he's Latino...that would add a lot more to Obama's ticket than Clinton would.

    •  Clinton would be a strong VP

      She has a very good grasp of the issues. Is a master of policy detail. Has worked well as a Senator with good working relationships across the aisle. As President of the Senate, she could be enormously helpful to the Obama administration in shepherding the legislative agenda through the Senate. She also has very wide international contacts and influence that could help quite a bit. Her international credentials and experience are considerably greater in fact than Obama's. Up until recently, I thought that this was not only possible but likely. And Bill wuld function much better as the spouse of a VP than of a President. So, all in all, it looks pretty good on paper. We shall see whether it works out that way.

        I just think there are other Dems with good resumes who don't attract such animosity from Republicans. I am afraid if Obama put Clinton on the ticket it would hurt his ability to appeal to independents and even some Republicans. It's too bad the president doesn't pick the Congressional leaders, because I think Clinton would be fantastic as Senate majority leader.

          that this animosity extends to the Senate GOP. People often assume that there is a lot of personal animosity in the Senate but such is not the case. Clinton is known to enjoy very good relations with a number of pretty conservative Senators.

            She may get along well with Republican senators behind the scenes (I have heard that too), but she also motivates the Republican base. That's why she'd be great as Senate majority leader but not so great as a presidential or VP candidate.

              for a VP candidate. In any case, this year there will be a highly energized Democratic turnout that will bury the GOP no matter who is running. This is going to be an historic year. As George Will said: Big changes happen after big landslide elections (1932, 1964, 1984). I think 2008 will be one of those years.

    That's when I will be voting too, in VA. I was going to keep my New Jersey registration until after the primary, but some friends from Arlington Young Democrats convinced me that it was time to change it (I was planning to do so before the general anyway).
