Hey Edwards Supporters What Now? POLL

Well it's official. My candidate, John Edwards is out. I grieve for him, as he gave it all he had for the disadvantaged and shut-off. But the intrigue now builds. The polls tend to show a momentum change for Obama since South Carolina. Yet John's withdrawal today changes all that. Where will we go?

Flip to vote (and no cheating from the Obama and Clinton crowd, hear?).

I for one will support Obama against Hillary. I won't bore you with why. But all you Edwards supporters, who will you now support?

    It is an open thread comment fleshed out with a dubious poll.  That's quite aside from it's inappropriateness and lack of nuance.

    Diaries should be substantive. A good guideline is that if you don't have at least three solid paragraphs to write about your subject, you should probably post a comment in an open thread, or in a recent diary or front-page post that covers a topic relevant to what you wish to write about.

  Why did Edwards' drop out today, not yesterday or the day before or after South Carolina? Because today steps on Hillary's Florida "victory" spin.

  Why not announce an endorsement of Obama? Save a later news cycle for that.

      I went to the website and wrote a message to Edwards saying how sorry I was that he ended his campaign.

      I said that I had to hope that either Clinton or Obama would take up the fight, but that unless I saw some credible evidence of it before Feb 5, that I would still vote for John Edwards (if still on the ballot) or write his name in (if not).

    I am so glad that I had a chance to vote for Edwards.  I think that I would probably vote for him if I was in a Super Tuesday state just because I can find good and bad about both of the others.

    Deciding what to do must be hard for the Edwards' people around here, but I don't think you can find fault with either choosing another candidate or deciding to stick with your heart and vote for Edwards.

  On Tuesday, I will still vote for Edwards.  Let the candidates make of that what they may, but I hope it sends a signal to veer left.

  Most of us will step back and take another look before we decide.

  We will watch to see who picks up the slack that JRE out of the campaign leaves.  If you understood 'caucusing', you would understand the need to 'woo' us.

  If Party is going to switch the discussion from Black v. Women and get to issues, we will go along.

  If it is just going to be a new 'racial' thing that the M$M is trying to drum up by switching to Latino. Rural v. city. I'm buns out for a while. Driving wedges is the Corporate M$M plan. They all love McCave.

  JRE people are dedicated and worth courting. But 'playground taunting' and 'hahahahahaha' is not going to cut it.

  Divisiveness is the loosing strategy that has lost too many elections.

  I have major problems with both:

  To me, Hillary is disengenuous and, like her husband, would sell us out whenever the focus group results say it is politically convenient.  She is deeply polarizing...even in our own party not to mention the country.  The Republicans hate her and would turn out in droves to vote against her.  With Republicans generally more subdued than Democrats, especially considering they won't completely like their nominee no matter who it is, we don't need to nominate someone that they will turn out to vote against.

  And I've yet to hear a legitimate reason to support her.  You have the "She's experienced" (even though she has never served in an executive fashion and has only been in the Senate for a little more than one term.  Her time in the White House DOES NOT COUNT; you wouldn't go to a brain surgeon and assume his wife/her husband is qualified to do the job just because they're married to a brain surgeion.  And you have the mother of all stupid reasons: "She's a woman/wife/daughter/mother and it would just be so awesome if she were elected."

  On the other hand, I have qualms about Obama.  For one thing, I don't like the "Bipartisanship Kumbayah" coming from him.  It's naive to think you can get these people on your side.  I also question his toughness.  I remember him saying that lives have been wasted in Iraq and that the Palestinians have it rough, only to backtrack when the noise machines got started.  While I understand that you do have to compromise and negotiate and sometimes need to keep your mouth shut, going into Washington in a submissive posture is not the right thing to do.

  I almost voted early today here in Georgia..for Edwards but decided not to be late(r) to work.  I'm not sure what I'll do now.  I'm a bit betrayed by Edwards, and I've got the nagging thought in my head now that we've (Democrats) fucked up this election now, especially with McCain looking like the Republican nominee.

  I just don't know right now.

  I say this as a Democratic Party official.
     Most important, I can't tolerate her because of her disgusting and obviously phony stand on the war. If she is elected she will happily go on killing young Americans, following some jerk-off Scoop Jackson theory of American Might.
      Second, I can't stand somebody who is so obviously a total android. As a party official I have seen her up close at functions and pressers enough to see the gears whirling and all the pseudo imitations of being a human being. There is something wrong with somebody who can't hide their phonyiness.
    But I could be happy with a phony.After all, she stands for many things I like.  But not one who is a monster about the war
