Nader forming committee...let's have some fun

Haven't seen this diaried yet, but CNN reports that uber-egotist Ralph Nader is considering another run for the White House.

This is the idiot who cost Al Gore the election in 2000 and left us with the Worst. President. Ever. I know there are those who say that Gore ran a shitty campaign and the media was unfair and so on, but the indisputable fact is that Nader took precious votes from Gore and helped Chimpy win the election.

So let's have some fun. At this site, you can email Nader and tell him to keep his monstrous ego under control this time and stay the hell out of this race. No need to be polite. I sure as hell wasn't.

    Nader has done so much amazing work for this country. Nader didn't cause Gore to lose the election, Gore did that on his own.

    I can't stand the vitriol towards one of our best fighters for consumer rights. I know why Nader did this, he saw that Edwards dropped out and decided to consider running. Nader respected Edwards, and once he saw that the only guy willing to take big corp. was gone....he's now thinking about jumping in again.

                      as well, just economy of electrons.  I love "Who are You", but I think my son, born long after Keith died, said it best:  "They should have quit after Who's Next.  They never got the magic back."  As a three time live concert goer (once with Keith), I will say that they put on one hell of a show.  My favourite album is still "Tommy" not only in spite of but because of the rough edges.  One of my sons gave me the expanded CD of "The Who Sell Out" for Christmas, and it is fantastic.  But, I can see for miles and miles.  Warmest regards to all, Doc.

        do something so bad that you will turn your vote into a protest. Fine and dandy, but how is that effective? Your vote doesn't come with a comment or reason attached. It will disappear down the memory hole with all the other 3rd and 4th and 5th party votes in history. And if, just if, it and others like it have the election-swinging outcome, there are real-world consequences that last a generation or more... SCOTUS being the most obvious. Seems like putting your energy behind one of the Dump-the-electoral-college or IRV voting campaigns would be more to the point without the risk to the country.

          Speaking of the "memory hole", do you recall that it was Bill Clinton who signed the repeal of Glass-Steagal that led to this mortgage mess? I will say that most of the major candidates put this country at great risk.

          IRV sounds great, but why exactly would the duopoly break up the system that entrenches their power?  

          There are two ways to take back the country, through the Democratic Party or outside of it.  I've thought long and hard about this and understand the countours of this debate very well, thank you.  But, if the Democratic Party seems resistent to change, I need to zag outside of it.  

          Nader waited until Edwards dropped out, as did I.  That's consistent with someone giving the Dems every chance to remake the party without succumbing to lesser evil logic.

Darn thread tangling. His logic was lacking, I thought, which perhaps explains my reply.

            On your point, I sincerely don't see the connection between a 3rd party vote and opening up the two-party system that's so entrenched in our law and politics, but I do respect anyone's deeply held political beliefs. Some of us see strategic voting (lesser evil) as our best choice, others don't. I'll just say that most of the minor party candidates also pose great risks for the country, and in my opinion, Mr. Nader is one of our riskier choices for president, spoiler effect aside. I'm curious as to whether you see your best choice as a different party affiliation, whoever they have running, or is it tied to an individual (Nader)?

            mentioning Clinton's misdeeds makes me wonder if you assume I'm in Hillary's camp. I'm uncommitted. Bill was a lot better than the two Bushes (faint praise perhaps, in your eyes) and I've been leaning Hillary's way, but now I'm looking closer at Obama (perhaps not much better). One thing I'm sure of- I'll vote for one of them next Tuesday and I'll vote for the Democrat in November. To each his own, though.
