Empire's not so bad after all kids!

Well, that's what you who rely on the United States government or the MSM for your news would be led to think. Bush's news and Reich wing propaganda machine[or most of the MSM] would lead you to believe that 2007 has been our best year yet going on in the Iraq war chapter of our history, fast approaching the five year anniversary of May 2, 2008 of our "Mission Accomplished" of Iraq. Well, nothing could be further from the truth.

But if you only depend on your news from our government and corporate-controlled MSM and media outlets, you would swear that maybe the Bush invasion and subjugation wasn't so bad, and maybe the neocon concept and agenda for world hegemony and empire is not such a bad idea after all!

Follow my rant under the fold, as this is only a primer, and you'll see just a little bit why you should never trust our government or our MSM for any of your news, unless of course you just happen to like drinking the neocon koolaid. I personally never touch the stuff...

While most Americans were busy over the holidays with festvities and peace and good will towards men and all of that rot, and our Congress was away on vacation, (only making a token Senate skeleton watch so Bush doesn't make any vile recess appointments we'll grow to hate him even more for), with both of our political parties focused on electing Bush's successor, Mister Bush and his war criminal gang have been busy very, very busy! Yes, just as busy as little bees.

[Disclaimer follows: This is my "teaser comment", you know like the your local MSM tells us, "Tune in at 5 o'clock for the rest of the story". I hate it when they tease us like that.]

If anyone reads this, maybe I'll go into more depth tomorrow and invest four or five hours on it as usual, instead of just the three hours it took me to write this rant with lots more proof[links]. But if it's not read, I've got better things to do with my time, like read international news rags and diaries here, and other Dem blogs.

My hope is that I can convince you who do inbibe from that poisoned well of deceit, and it does smell up to high heaven sometimes, that I can help break your habit in 2008, and hope that you begin to drink from the online international news magazines' wells, at least as much from trusted (by me and I don't really need to say this do I?) Democratic blogs like Dkos. I promise you from the depths of my soul that I and they won't steer you wrong!

And no, that's not alcohol or neo-con koolaid I'm drinking. Haven't had a drink in seven years! Sorry to you party animals out there!

I implicitly trust these media outlets, and if you knew me, you'd know that I don't easily trust anyone walking around in just any old bag of bones breathing nauseous noxious fumes, like me. If you live long enough to see a ripe old age, you too, will become the skeptical anti-war, anti-establishment Democratic party hippie I've been almost my whole life. But it's not too late for you, if you would care to learn how to put down the neocon establishment and corporate status quo koolaid cup.

America is like that man who got ran over by the train and still thinks he has both of his legs! Little does he know that he is just two minutes from bleeding out, that he will never see another tomorrow, much less ever walk again!

America has had both of its legs cut-off by this Bush regime of war criminals, who are running down the railway tracks like runaway train, yet most of us Americans go about their daily lives thinking everything's just as snug as a bug in a rug. Well, it isn't. Everything isn't just hunkey dorey, in the eyes of the world from their perch's view of America.

The rest of the world views America as the greatest single threat to world peace, not al-Qaeda. Shocking news, aay? You shouldn't be surprised at all, you should be enraged that they have been able to pull this thing off, that they have succeeded in undoing every single good thing this once great nation ever stood for. And it only took them seven years to do it!

Some of you might be thinking, so what, what can the rest of the world hope to do against our mighty military, the greatest superpower the world has ever known? Ask all of the greatest civilizations that ever walked this planet what happened to them, when they outgrew their britches, and thought they too were untouchable, unstoppable, invincible.

    ...an old anti-war, peace-loving, anti-empire, anti-neocon, anti-establishment, anti-status quo hippie like me. If not, that's ok!

    Regardless of nationality, ethnicity and language barriers separating us, the real world(as opposed to the Bush neocon world) is a macrocosm of free thinking and intelligent individuals who yearn for world peace, like us.

    Our government and the MSM just hasn't seemed to have gotten that message, yet. But we're not going to let them be our thought police, or make-up our minds who our next president is, are we? Hope not.

    I'll go it alone, if I have to. Won't you please join me, and the other true progressives here and in other places in this world, who are fighting with all of their power to achieve our progressive Dem goals?

    All it costs is your time, your sweat, and maybe even your blood one day--if we fail. And failure is not an option, unless police state and dictatorship are the things that pluck your patriotism heart strings.

    Dissent is not treason, but subverting the Bill of Rights, lying to the American people to wage wars of aggression for imperialistic, hegemonic goals, mass murder, and subjugation of countries solely for war profits and plunder, who never threatened or attacked us, for the murderous thirst of empire--not in self-defense, is.

    Waging war to achieve peace and security achieves neither, peace nor security, but only misery, unspeakable pain and suffering for generations to come. Let's end the cycle of violence, shall we?

        I recognize that many "specific details" have to be worked out, but that his particular stances are very parallel to the Democratic planks....

        I was b. in '56, and from the moment I saw him come on the stage in Selma, I have been saying "don't trust anybody over 50 in politics, they are part of the reason we are IN this shitty situation".

        New eyes and ears, thats the ticket.

                  ...some people have great genes, some people just look good in jeans. Obama has accomplished a lot and he's prepared himself to be a GREAT PRESIDENT! I'd be proud to support him, and you know all of this racist crap card that you know the repubs are going to play to the hilt is going to backfire right in their slimy faces. From my pic I guess you can tell I'm white, but I'm really a rainbow in attitude. I accepted Obama as a fine human being and never once caught myself thinking he was a great "black" man. I never thought of his race one time until the MSM made an issue of it. Now it makes me sick to death when I hear people talk about it. I lived through the sixties, the assassinations, the Vietnam war protests, losing 500 troops a week, and all the street violence of the civil rights movement. We're better than this, dammit! I won't stand for any racist comments around me. Too many people have died and are still dying over this and it stops with me. I have control over my own mind and so do you and everyone else. No excuses.

    An interesting point was implied, about "free press" and protection thereof when the corporatism has put this paper and that station in the profit pot with the military/industrial complex Eisenhower warned us about.

    The Judith Miller case, how the press was fed false information to propagandize the public, enough so that over 50% of the public still think Iraqis were on the 9/11 planes....

    Seems the protections of the press, specifically the NYT, are null and void due to the lack of "truthiness"...  

    Something needs to be done to differentiate the true purveyors of honest, "public interest protecting" media and the neo-yellow journalists.

    It's as simple as making "You are full of bullshit" acceptable language in our judgements.

            I know that it will seem naive to say this but I have just become aware of the superdelegates to the election and am extremely upset by the very concept.

            After coming in third in Iowa, Hillary Clinton of the machine has a lot of delegates in her column from superdelegates.....members of congress, political party hacks, gov, etc.  Who are these people and who decides which candidate they will go with??  Obviously nothing that the voters do has any effect.  Why do we bother to get excited about an "out of the beltway" candidate, if the beltway has such a huge say in who the GE candidate is?

              ...Short answer, our nation is based on the two-party system and as long as we have a "beltway" or national party candidate selection process, they're going to always have a say. It's the "nature of the beast", as it were. I guess this is supposed to be set-up so we don't have mob rule. The super-delegates supposedly prevent anyone from corrupting the system, no matter how much name recognition or money they have. It makes sense, because the average jane or joe six-pack obviously can't be there to pick the nominee, so who better than the ones we elected by popular vote(representing us as super delegates) plus the ones we chose at the caucuses? Not to worry, though. We don't have a McGovern-like disaster brewing, this year. Any of our Dems could beat the repubs. The election is ours to lose, or at least there's no apparent reason why we should lose! The people are fed-up with Bush or anyone that talks like him. Don't let them scare you. They always talk tough, but they're the ones who are really scared to death this time, scared they're going to lose their immense power. A wounded animal is the most dangerous animal!

              Rules

              On February 2, 2007, the Democratic Party published its Call for the Convention, which are the rules governing the convention. There will be 3,515 pledged delegates which will be selected by primary voters and caucus participants, and 852 unpledged delegates, colloquially known as superdelegates, which are DNC members, Democratic members of Congress and Governors, and other important figures in the party.

              The pledged delegates are allocated among the states in rough proportion to the proportion of votes each state gave the Democratic candidate in the last three Presidential elections and the percentage of votes each state has in the Electoral College.

              In addition, fixed numbers of delegates are allocated for Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Democrats Abroad.

              Under the party's Delegate Selection Rules, delegates are awarded via proportional representation with a minimum threshold of 15% of votes in a state in order to receive delegates. In addition, the delegate population must reflect the state's ethnic distribution, and at least 50% of the delegates must be women.

    As far as the media: I stopped reading the NY Times about 20 years ago, when they lifted a local headline for a filler story, without actually paying attention to what the story said. It happened to be one of those "well if you're from here, you'd understand that the local place-names are screwy and so although the story sounds one way, it's actually the opposite..." If only they had called the chamber of commerce or something, just to clarify, especially since the local paper they took it from is the one that said to me in a job interview: "Proof-reader? We don't need a proof-reader anymore. We've got a computer now!"

    And that was how I learned that no one was home in the editing department. I swore off cold-turkey, and so was not fooled by the Judith Miller crap.

    I just don't get it: nyceve has a top-rec'd diary going about Congress hauling in Clemens but not the Cigna CEO. Well, it just seems to me that the top-'o-the-list people simply have too much conflict of interest goin' on to fix anything, unless we are using "fixed" in it's new Bush-speak meaning of "broken." Maybe someone should spam Congress's Blackberries with that ol' definition of insanity about trying the same thing and expecting different?

    And another thing: I believe that no matter who follows Bush, Dem or Repub, they will be the one standing against the wall when the poop hits the proverbial air-flow unit. The way I see it, only Kucincich has already had a dress rehearsal of this and knows how to stand tall while all others either run scared or fling more crap at him.

Either way he's the only candidate who says decriminalize recreational use of pot as part of his platform. Use it or don't, but there's a lot of people in JAIL today for that sort of thing, even as our President lies to Congress to start a war and gets away with it.

        As far as "considering" Paul? I will give fifteen minutes of attention to anyone who wants to talk about the gold and silver standards. Doesn't mean I'm accepting him, but it does mean that someone out there is talking better fiscal policy. Which of the "top" candidates can say that?

        You originally asked who we listened to for the straight truth, and why. Well, so far Dennis is the only one who hasn't lied to me and has actively tried to bring me the truth.

          John Locke and other philosophers said government's authority is only by consent of the people, and the double-standard/disenfranchising drug laws are stupid.

          The Opiate of the masses in Afghan is financing our opposition, just another war to fight.

          It may be to risky to develop some kind of decrimilization laws pre General Election, but a wink and a nod to the R__P____'s will get them on board.  They have personal classmates who have fought the law and lost, and it puts too much stress in the system.

          I mentioned MASH above, the football scene at the ending, has that cool part with Ben Davidson, John Brodie passing a joint...my whole potential end of arguement point could be about the Hells Angels having "power and profit" in the drug supply chain.  

          Gangs are supply chain based.  War veterans may just need to self medicate without government hassles.

          Hell, our own CIA has a cocaine residue to it.

          If possession of a vegetable can be the end result of this mornings broccoli rant, so be it.

          Homeland can detect metal maybe, but cabbage sniffing robots haven't been invented yet.

          And as for seeing something that others insist doesn't exist - listen to a politician sometime, or their supporters.

          Does it take guts to admit to seeing a UFO?  I think so.  I've never seen either a UFO or a ghost, but I may have actually seen an honest politician - or two!

          People want to be lied to or they wouldn't accept the bullshit they are fed so readily.  People don't really like the truth unless it is put in a pretty box with a bow on it.  Then they'll confuse the packaging with the actual contents.

          ...and I've got tons of respect for him for standing-up against Bush/Cheney with the offering of H.Res. 333, now H.Res. 799 Impeachment Articles. I gave him a standing O for that and much kudos. The man's got lots of guts, and he obviously loves America more than a lot of folks, risking everything he owns, his life and his political career to oppose the staus quo. Just wish he hadn't been too honest. There is such a thing as being so brutally honest to the point that you scare even those on your side. Cream rises to the top. He'll still be around, the best always are! He hit his stride this cycle and I'm sure he learned his lesson about being too brutal. I just hope America can recover from the Bush slash and burn years. Obama, Edwards or Hillary, anyone of them can do it!

        What do the christians say? Love the sinner, hate the sin? I love Dennis - he says very little I disagree with. On paper, he's an excellent candidate. But live, in person, the rainbows and unicorns are a big negative. That's a shame, but there you have it.

    That is what I fear. Whomever wins in 08 will have to weed through all these agencys and get rid of the neo-cons. They will not leave of their own accord. They may even play the game for awhile, if a Dem. is in the WH. But believe that they will try to obstruct every chance they get. This group of Federalists and the PNAC's are not going away because they lose the WH. They will be waiting to pounce anytime the opportunity arises and obstruct when and where they can. They will not go quietly into the night. They have plans.

      Our system seems to function correctly only when a Democratic administration is in charge. So once we capture the White House, suddenly the press is going to wake up and start being critical, examining every move the president makes, and being hyper-aware of all the oversight and openness and transparency they can bring to bear.

      Exactly as you say: All the embedded Regents U grads in their choice positions in our agencies will relish and savor their ability to obstruct and sabotage every good move we try to make. A solar power plant tries to come online, oh whoops a daisy! We have a zoning problem. Or some crap like that.

      They will fight us at every turn, tooth and nail, and because we're the good guys, we can't shoot people in the back, we can't torture them, we can't stomp on their fingers as they hold onto the ledge beneath us.

    The best anyone can do is listen, then look for the greed-induced explanation for what they're saying. If you fail to find a greed-induced explanation, then you may be hearing something that resembles the truth, but don't count on it.

    That word has been deleted from my personal lexicon.  Does not compute.

    "Frontrunner" Dems are saying pretty words that sound like recipes for elegant desserts, but I'm not hearing the equivalent of something as satisfying as plain nourishing meat and potatoes and veggies.

    Like: Impeachment or Accountability for Dickie and Georgie for their lies and war crimes.  [Impeachment remains my #1 "issue."  Without impeachment to restore the balance of power between the three branches of government, we're stuck with a serial dictatorship and the only thing that changes is the political party D or R designation behind the name of the next resident of the oval office because that person will inherit all those unconstitutional and extralegal 'unitary executive' powers claimed by the top two lying war criminals in this nation.  I don't trust anyone with dictatorial power!]

    Like: Getting ALL of our military OUT of Iraq within three to six months after inauguration day, no permanent military bases in Iraq, and issuing an order to close Gitmo and end torture within an hour of taking the oath of office.

    Like: NOT-FOR-PROFIT healthcare plans for ALL people that won't only put more money in the pockets of insurance, medical, or pharmaceutical corporations.  "Single-payer" insurance plans are not enough.  The insurance corporations can still deny payment for idiotic reasons and still raise the rates to unaffordable levels, which will only enrich the corporations further.

    Like: Repealing MCA '06 (to restore habeas corpus and end kangaroo court tribunals), repealing the Patriot Acts... for starters, to give us back the rights our Congress Critters so blithely gave away while they were pissing their pants with fear every time Georgie had a meltdown temper tantrum.

    That's my short list.  Without impeachment, none of the rest matters; our Constitution will be as meaningless as Georgie and Dickie have made it (with the enabling assistance of spinless Congress Critters).  We will become a serial dictatorship and shunned by the rest of the world as a third-world terrorist nation (and likely a whole lot worse, but I can't let my mind go there yet unless all hope is lost for impeachment).

    Lamestream Media, of course, is complicit in the lies and war crimes of Georgie and Dickie because they have so ably promoted the wars as patriotic, even in the face of the overwhelming truth that it's all about control of the oil reserves in Iraq.  Even PBS is getting in on the act.  They have had huge numbers of shows relating to war in the last year (about past wars, yes, but still about war), lots of "patriotic" graphics otherwise, and I feel quite sure it's all designed to imply the illegal war in Iraq based on lies for oil is somehow as "patriotic" as past wars that were "justified" - when, in fact, the last war we were involved in that was justified was WWII.

    I like dessert as well as the next person, but right now any more pretty words will make me feel as though I've been eating only dessert for the last six months... and I'm starving for some plain old solid words with meat and potatoes substance for nourishment.  I'd like the first course to be impeachment....

        I didn't want to make you cry... but I admit that when I allow my pessimism to go to the 'no impeachment' thought processes, I get teary-eyed myself.

        I've thought about this matter long and hard and argued with myself (so to speak) about it, setting up arguments for and against impeachment.  The idiotic rationalizations about 'no time,' 'not enough votes,' etc., as stated by Congress Critters don't hold water.  There is still time, the evidence is overwhelming, and once the evidence is presented - and more found in the discovery process of a trial - even the most idiotic Congress Critters would be forced to vote in favor of impeachment or be voted out of office.

        I just honestly do not see any other way of righting our ship of state and sailing away from rocky shoals and a mortal shipwreck other than impeachment to restore the balance of power, which must then logically lead to repealing most of the unconstitutional legislation that has been passed since the SCOTUS decision of December 2000.

        Worse, everyone is ignoring the subject of justice and accountability for the top two lying war criminals "leading" us to certain ruin.  No one wants to talk about impeachment; H. Clinton has as much as said she would not pursue even investigations (an added reason I can't support her, but there are other reasons), and I greatly fear a fascist corporatocracy for our future if all the Dems do is want to sing Kumbayah and mumble platitudes about 'forgetting the past and moving on to a better future.'  "Investigations" are constantly hampered by people ignoring subpoenas and contempt citations are meaningless when gathering dust waiting to be voted on - inherent contemtp charges should be pursued instead, since that bypasses the AG and DoJ.

        I'm in no mood to forgive and forget lies and war crimes; I want justice on behalf of those who have been tortured, and for those who have died for lies, oil, and corporate greed.

            At this moment in time, however, candidate diaries are all the rage, and it would likely get lost in the shuffle.  I don't know what else can be said about candidates that hasn't been repeated umpteen times, but they do suck up all the oxygen just now.

            I've written extensive comments about impeachment which seem to be well received - and I always rec comments by others that favor impeachment anyway, even if I don't comment because they've said something better than I could - and I know many people want impeachment as bad as you and I do.

            But your encouragement has made me think....  And thank you so much for your gracious compliments!  :-)
