Obama Lost to Clinton, so Edwards Should Quit (snark)

We all know Obama supporters would not be urging Edwards supporters to abandon Edwards if Obama won tonight.  So, in a moment of weakness, some of them tell us that we need to abandon our candidate.  Well, I got news for you.  I am sticking with Edwards through the convention!

NV and SC are next and there are 48 states to go!  Nevada is now open as the UNITE HERE is telling the Culinary Union to stay neutral despite the expectation they would go to Obama.  South Caronlina will be interresting considering Edwards won that state after losing the previous 3 states to Kerry in 2004.

      A recent CNN poll showed that Edwards is the only candidate who beats all the Republicans in national head to head matchups. (I know Obama has been saying it's him, but this is not honest on his part.)

      If we want to win and win big in November, Edwards must be our candidate.

      Time for everyone to wake up. A vote for Obama or Clinton in the primary is a vote for a Republican in November.

    It's cold calculation I've planned on for weeks depending on how things turn out.

    Both my Chess brain and my gut tell me it's over for Edwards - not because he lost tonight. Because Hillary won.

    I might be wrong. But I honestly don't see how. Hillary and Obama are going to outspend him down the line. The media is going to black him out more than ever now. And if you believe the polls, he's not going to win his neighbor state S. Carolina which he desperately needed.

    Edwards was supposed to win Iowa. He spent almost all his money there. Then he was supposed to do well in NH based on his Iowa bump and take that into SC.

    It ain't gonna happen. It could have been a good long race if Hillary had been neutralized early. Edwards could have picked up his electibility vote against Obama.

    But this NH victory for Hillary completely changes the map. Now we can look forward to HC raising a shitload more money and giving Obama the fight of his life.

    But I respect your position. I wish I agreed with it.

      Of course Obama and Clinton have more than him currently but money doesn't always translate to wins.

      This is a strange time and this is going to be a real race now - we will see the stamina effect come into play earlier, we have more debates now (where it becomes harder to black-out Edwards).

        Many people have hoped for an Edwards/Obama ticket. I have. Let's do what we can to make it so. We can both be broke come November!

              Union officials have said they will put an end to endorsement speculation Wednesday. A morning news conference is scheduled to announce its choice at the culinary's Las Vegas union hall.

              Officials said Tuesday that the decision has not been made and would not say which candidates were still under consideration. A decision will follow an Tuesday night conference call with leadership, culinary political director Pilar Weiss said.

              But Edwards  isn't out either, even though Obama was near begging for it in his speech. (that's not a diss, but he did for the first time get close to saying union)

              UNITE HERE president Bruce Raynor said in August that he supported the North Carolina senator after working with him organizing campaigns in Edwards' home state.

              One UNITE HERE local appeared not to have waited for an endorsement before supporting Edwards. Culinary members in Las Vegas received a campaign mailer from UNITE HERE, Local 2 in San Francisco urging members to be skeptical about other candidates' promises.

              "John Edwards walked our picket line," the mailer obtained by The Associated Press reads in English and Spanish. "Today, all the candidates for president will say they support you because Nevada is so important to their campaigns. Please support us by supporting John Edwards."

  Obama does look weaker now than he did yesterday.  And Obama supporters are indeed now turning to Edwards supporters and asking them to please help.  The fact is that Obama remains far better positioned to beat Clinton than Edwards, and for many of us beating Clinton is the top priority.  As long as it looked like Clinton would lose, there was no urgency for anti-Clinton voters to coalesce around a single candidate.  Now there is urgency.  A great deal of urgency.  I went in an Obama voter, but I would have happily changed horses to Edwards at this point if he had beaten Obama in Iowa and New Hampshire.  But Obama beat Edwards soundly in both those states.  

  I know some Edwards supporters are here saying this is silly because they prefer Clinton to Obama anyway.  That's fine, you keep right on backing Edwards (preferably all the way to the convention).  But I know there are a goodly number of anti-establishment voters in both the Obama and Edwards camps who don't want to see Clinton win.  It's time to end the dominance of cynicism, incrementalism, and triangulation in the Democratic party.  The time has come to cast in our lot together, and at this moment Obama looks clearly the stronger candidate.  I think it's not too late yet, but it will be soon.  If Clinton is able to build momentum in the remaining January states, she'll clean house on super tuesday and that'll be the end.  Now is the time, folks.  I'm not ashamed to say it:  we need you now.

    I prefer Obama to Clinton but I still trust John more than anyone else.

    If you want to stop Clinton so badly, then join me and John Edwards. He beats all the Republicans nationally (no other Democrat does), he's surged to within 2 points of Obama nationally and he's the most Progressive Democrat in this race.

    That's being a Progressive Democrat, standing with the best candidate.

    To me cynicism is saying I should change who I believe in simply to stop Clinton. Guess what? If it's Clinton in the end, I'll be supporting her and continuing to work as I can to build a progressive Party.

    All the candidates are the last gasp of the baby-boom generation and even it's going to be hard to overcome their brand of politics which ruined the Party these past 20 years.

    Our time will come.
