A Smiley Day for Women! The Ceiling Has Cracked

The oppression of women has been given a good day. I hope many will relish the moment as it may be short lived according to some of the diaries up this morning.

It is also a good day for all oppressed people. We made our voices heard and I hope Clinton and Obama voters keep it up!

The real status quo took a beating yesterday in NH. That is progress on many levels.

Please celebrate the possibilities. Please see the positive. Please see the change that is happening.

Can we rise above the stats and spin for a little bit of time and see what a big step forward this is for the world?

Let us please focus on the Democrat victory for that is what happened.

Maybe, just maybe, Hillary won last night because women and those who voted for her saw their first chance to crack the ceiling of the man's world.

I hope the momentum carries forward, but I know the power and odds are and have always been against the oppressed, but the real energy is there. The real power of hope is there and the actions of change is in the air.

Hillary and Obama wins are real progress. Celebrate the victory. Savor the possibilities!

  •  She won because of tenacity and stamina

    and she kicked butt. She converted me Saturday at a lengthy New Hampshire townhall - took unscripted questions from voters and answered each question with depth. Obama would blast in for a half hour, she'd do an hour and a half.

    And in the media storm, she wobbled yesterday but does she run away and hide? No she keeps going and going and going....this is a woman who can handle pressure.

    MSM is saying today that looking back on things, Obama's debate performance was tepid and phoned in.

    Now let's see what happens. Maybe Edwards can win more in South Carolina. Maybe Obama will step up his game.

          There was certainly backlash, especially among women, against the MSM pile on, but a wave goes nowhere without a surfer.

          Hillary paddled HARD, scrambled onto her feet, and kept all ten toes over the edge of the surfboard to shoot through the tube. Obama thought he could just ride his mo wave, and wiped out.

  I wish it were about a glass ceiling.  I wish it was a fight between ovaries and balls.....ovaries would win hands down.  But my reasons for not supporting Hillary are....well, frankly, BILL.  And not because I wasn't alive and well in the 90's but because of this damned dynasty thing that we seem to have going.  It needs to stop somewhere before we have Jeb '12 or one of the damned twins '24.

    on my nerves. The only part of the Bush-Clinton years that bothers me are the Bush years. SHE is her own person. SHE will GOVERN her way.

    And besides, you really think 12 years of democratic governance is a dynasty? What really should bother you is the 20 years of conservative governance that has fucked the planet over. (Reagan,Bush1,Bush2).

    I'll take a Clinton any day over another nonconservative. Period.

  Yep. women in NH said they were mad as hell and weren't going to take it anymore.  Tweety tried to keep us in middle management and we said NO!

  It ain't over yet but if she can channel that fighting spirit from all of us who've been dissed by our male counterparts or undermined or excluded from the Old Boy's Club, she'll have a winning formula.  We already know she's qualified for the job.  

  And it will be much harder for Rovians to suppress the female vote.

  I'm 57 and not in any of those years did I see women and people of different skin color treated as true equals to the white male establishment in which I operated with ease because of my fate of birth -- instead, women and people of color were always treated a shade different and often (in pay, in opportunity, in respect) much worse.  I've dreamed of the day when these biases would die out or disappear.  This may be THAT year, and I thank you for the inspiring diary that crystalizes that hope.
