Just about everything has gone wrong in the past two weeks for John McCain's presidential bid. Barack Obama has been connecting with the American people from coast to coast, and is pulling away in the polls. McCain, and his whole team, dart around on some sort of zig-zaggy path that leaves most of us perplexed. Sarah Palin's old swimsuit video is about her only contribution lately that might cause (some) voters to sit up and notice with a certain degree of admiration. And that Bush Bailout disaster landed on McCain like a boulder falling from the sky.
John McCain has a famous temper. The poor guy might blow a serious fuse.
John McCain must be looking at the disaster that Sarah Palin has become, then the terrible financial hurricane that hit the country prompting Bush's Bailout schemes, and wonder, "I spent five and a half fucking years in the Hanoi Hilton getting my arms twisted off -- for this!"
In the first debate I thought he was going to have a stroke or something. Tense! Muttering, "horseshit!" while Barack Obama, calmly, presented his case. McCain gets the same treatment as Bob Dole got. The GOP is the Bush Dynasty's plaything. When Dole ran, the party big shots held back to set the table for Bush Junior's run four years later. This time, McCain gets the same treatment -- the big effort will be for Jeb Bush in 2012, who Karl Rove will repackage as "a new kind of Bush, unlike the others, super-compassionate!"
Look at what the "base" of the GOP did to "help" John McCain: Sarah Palin is their prize, forced upon the straight-talker. And Bush Junior has been working on his bailout plan for "months," according to Paulson and others. Why drop it on McCain's head just before the election? McCain is ruined by either, a combination of both is impossible.
With friends like those, who needs enemies? Obama must be thinking, "This is too easy!"
