The McCain campaign continues to display it's widening break from reality by attempting to make Gwen Ifill THE STORY of tonight's debate--before it even happens.
We all know that they've been trying to do ANYTHING to shield Palin from the well-deserved ridicule that's been piling up.
This strategy however, is illuminating due to two simple facts:
One--Gwen Ifill is not a household name.
Two--the McCain campaign is showing it's lack of focus by deluding themselves that she is, or perhaps that they can make her one.
Now me, I'm a bit of a fan, but I'm way out of demographic for this message from McCain and Co. Are his advisors seriously thinking that hordes of undecided voters spend their Friday evening watching "Washington Week?" And that they can somehow turn an intelligent and well-prepared moderator into the representation of unfairness? Nevermind their meme about "If you can't handle Fox news..."
It should be much more troubling to the average viewer, and voter, that this type of delusion is emanating from the campaign, because I think they actually do believe it, at least to a degree. At best, they're showing a continued detachment from reality that characterizes the disaster tat is the Bush administration. At worst, it's not only a dishonest attack, but potentially another of their "coded" racial messages for, well, you know who they are.
