I live in a relatively affluent suburb of Philadelphia that's close to the city and therefore still somewhat diverse and definitely skewing Democratic. Still, there are definitely households in my area--households typically housed in beautiful, old, large houses--that skew in the other direction. I know from previous elections.
This year I'm seeing two interesting, new phenomena.
First interesting yard sign phenomenon: Missing top-of-ticket signs. In my neighborhood travels over the last two weeks in particular, I've seen at least a half dozen houses now with signs out for the Republican candidate for State Senate that do not have signs out for McCain/Palin. Whether this is because they are hesitant to acknowledge in public that they are voting for McCain, or hesitant to acknowledge in public that they are voting for Obama, I couldn't say. But it's interesting, and I don't think I've seen this before in any way that looked like a trend.
Second interesting yard sign phenomenon: Mixed signage. I was out on a run today and passed a stately house on a lovely street that displayed signs (two) for the Republican candidate for State Senate, signs (two) for the Republican incumbent in Congress, and, smack in the middle, an Obama/Biden sign.
I know I have definitely not seen this before. The Obama/Biden sign was not out there a few days ago either.
Anyone else seeing the mixed sign phenomenon? That one is really inspiring somehow.
