P l e a s e...... Can our country and the republican party be so moronic as to take Sarah Palin, even somewhat seriously, after her debate performance? Can people be fooled with a bumper to bumper series of sound bites, tired Republican old saws and misstatements about democrats taxing delivered in a practiced effort to be even more heavily home grown than she is already? Do we really need to believe any hockey mom is qualified for the Presidency for simply sitting and freezing their butts around a rink several times a week while watching their junior savage other tykes on ice?
You have to have mastery of the issues and be able to demonstrate it not just by using the words or naming important people but by getting to the substance that make those particular sounds relevant and important. She was interviewing for the Vice Presidency and maybe the Presidency of the United States not as the good will ambassador from America's rural counties.
She was prepped with all sorts of retorts and republican boiler plate and like a Stepford candidate she delivered. Amazing and frightening Americana.
In the New York Times I read this little piece that speaks to why we need to take the VP role seriously:
I know one thing: this is no time for further gambling. John McCain rolled the dice on Sarah Palin. I’m grateful to Bob Rice of Tangent Capital for pointing out that the actuarial risk, based on mortality tables, of Palin becoming president if the Republican ticket wins the election is about 1 in 6 or 7.
That’s the same odds as your birthday falling on a Wednesday, or being delayed on two consecutive flights into Newark airport. Is America ready for that?
