Last night, my wife and I were watching the debate. As you recall, in the very beginning, Palin came out and said, "Hey, can I call you Joe?" I turned to my wife and said, "What was that all about?"
It seemed sort of faux-folksy, but we didn't give it too much more thought. Then, just now, as my wife was giving the kids a bath, it hit her.
She called me into the bathroom and said, "I know why she said, 'Hey, can I call you Joe?'"
"Why?"
"So that later she could say, 'Say it ain't so, Joe.'"
"You're right!" I said.
I haven't heard anybody put these two moments together, but I'm pretty sure my wife is right. Tell me what it means.
