This is a powerful new YouTube that the campaign has just put up. It makes me so proud to say I'm a part of this campaign. Just look at all of the diversity and excitement inside and around this campaign. Barack Obama, with this campaign is showing the WORLD that what he said in his 2004 DNC speech is absolutely correct, we are all united in this country. For better or worse. Even with the disastrous state we are in right now (collectively) we have not lost our ability to hope. I am just so happy that the first political campaign I'm really putting my time, energy, hopes, and money into is one that I can truly be proud of. One day when I'm old and gray I'll be able to tell my grandchildren how I helped to get the greatest President ever elected, and so will all of you here at Kos.
(go to the actual YouTube page to see it in high quality, it's even better!)
DIGG IT UP
I really don't have too much more to add by way of words, so I'll just post some of my fav slideshows. Please comment and say why YOU are proud to be a part of this campaign. We all have our different reasons. In fact, I clearly remember the moment I said I wasn't going to sit on the sidelines and merely "hope" Obama got elected. It was after the NH primary. I'd been feeling anxious all day. Even though all of the polls were saying we were going to win and win big in NH, something didn't feel right. I even stopped watching the coverage, and went to go sleep (that's the way I pass the time when I'm anxious/excited about something coming later). I woke up just in time to hear that Hillary had won NH, and my heart dropped. I was really upset about it.
Well, I expected Barack to come out and give his speech, and for some reason I expected him to be as sad as I was. Well, he didn't seem to be in the same mood as he was the week before after winning Iowa. I remember him coming out with Michelle, and the famous hug (which is still one of my fav pics of him and Michelle)
Then he gave the speech that I really think got his campaign rolling.
At the end of this speech I had tears rolling down my face (and you all know by now I don't cry easily) and I decided that I was going to donate to his campaign. I'd never donated before. Sure, I paid attention to politics, but I never really "cared" enough to put my money where my mouth was. I saw something in him during that speech that made me say "this man NEEDS to be President, not for him, but for US." Over the past 9 or so months I've given him HUNDREDS of dollars (the amount surprises ME when I look on MyBO to see how much I've given). Everytime some new smear came out, I had to donate. Everytime one of our opponents pissed me off, I had to donate. Everytime Barack did something amazing (well not every time) I had to donate. What our opponents never seem to get is that the more they try to TEAR Obama down, the more we will BUILD him up. For some reason, we don't do "demotivated." Sure we all have our moments when we are just down in the dumps and no matter what he does we won't be happy, but those moments don't last long when we remind ourselves what's at stake in this election. Also, there's the fact that I really feel like I'm investing in my future when I donate. This is MY campaign, this is YOUR campaign.
We've watched him grow as a candidate, but we've also watched him remain steady. The things he said in the speech I posted above are the same things he's saying now. Hell, he was saying that stuff back in the 90s when he was still a State Senator in Illinois. He really believes that stuff, and it's hard not to believe it with him. The more I learn about his professional and personal life, the more I believe he's the right man for the job.
This campaign is driven by PASSION. That's why they can't knock us down. We aren't necessarily passionate for Barack Obama the man, we are passionate for his ideas of hope and helping out those who need it. He's literally been where we are. Did you know that after he gave that great speech in 2004, his credit card was declined? I can't find the story now, but that's how recently he was in the position that most of us are in today. He and Michelle JUST finished paying off their student loans, and that was only possible because Barack wrote two bestselling books. Barack Obama gets it. No matter how hard the media tries to paint him as out of touch and "aloof" it's not sticking because this time people are seeing for themselves. I even stood outside in the COLD for Obama's rally when he was here in Columbus. Literally, I couldn't feel my hands OR feet by the time we got in.
So, I really AM proud to be a part of this campaign. As promised, some of my fav slideshows:
