I hate to confess this but I have to see if I'm the only person who has been so utterly bored by the monotonous nature of these debates? And keep in mind I'm in the Pacific time zone so my debates started at 6 p.m. and that I don't work or have kids so it's not like I'm over-worked or exhausted from chasing kids all day. During the first one I was awake for 80% of it and dozed off once towards the end. With the Palin and Biden debate I slept through almost all of the latter half. And tonight, most embarrassingly, I caught the first five and last three questions and snoozed through the rest and I'm a political junky who reads Kos two to four times a day--these debates should have been like a shot of adrenaline for me, and I was stoked enough for them to skip yoga classes to watch them live, but instead it was like televised Ambien! I'm just curious: did anybody else fall asleep during any of these debates even though you were incredibly excited about watching them?
No, I don't have ADD or a short attention span. I read more than the average American and can name several of Bush's Cabinet members and members of Congress so I am anything but a low information voter. A part of me is angry at myself for not staying awake but it's like these debates were a spinning hypnotic pattern designed to knock me unconscious! I was well rested for the first two debates although I did only get six hours of sleep last night but I wasn't tired by any measure of that word. I guess for the final debate I will have to drink a cup of tea before it; I drink caffeinated beverages only once every month or two so it actually has some kick to it when I do use it.
Please don't tell me I must not care about my nation or that I'm too lazy, etc. because I truly wanted to watch every nuanced response of the candidates and to hear every question and answer. Yes, tonight's format was atrocious and Brokaw bleating on about sticking to the timing of the format annoying but I didn't think it was really that dull and like I said I am a political junky. I watched the McLaughlin Group and the McNeil/Lehrer News Hour (back before it was just The News Hour) when I was in high school, which should loudly proclaim my wonkish nature. And, don't worry, I'm a crazy torrenter so I do end up watching 100% of each debate later on but I just find it perplexing I fell asleep during all three.
