This morning I heard Joe Scarborough and assorted cohorts opine on how boring the debate last night was and how the country needs a Governor at this time of extreme financial crisis. We need a CEO type. We need a "manager" who understands budgets and how to talk straight in the language "of the people". We need someone who has run a business. While Joe prattled on and on and Mika shook her head in agreement and others all asserted that this is why a Senator hasn't been elected since the 1960s---because they are just not accustomed to dealing with non-legislative issues: the real meat and potatoes of running a country.
Throughout this hours long diatribe that was even continued later in the day during a special Morning Joe in the afternoon, I couldn't help thinking just how removed from reality these TV talking heads all are. Don't they know who the hell has been running this country for the last eight years? Don't they know who piloted this Titanic ship of an economy into the iceberg? HAve they forgotten the ultimate CEO/Governor/Business Genius Republicans touted as just what America needed to get it back on course after those horrible years of budgetary surpluses under Clinton?
It is amazing how easily, and without the least bit of shame, that Republicans and "Reagan Democrats" who pushed George Bush down the throats of the American public for years have suddenly forgotten he is still in charge of "running" things! And what about the other CEO pal of his Dick Cheney?
For the past eight years thia country has been run into the groung by two CEOs, just as their brethren have demolished company after company, bank after bank. And I thought ELEPHANTS never forget?
These Republican "ELEPHANTS" have memories so short that they are even returning failed CEO Carly Fiorina back to the trail, after all it has been a whole two weeks since her last gaffe when she called McCain incapable of running a major corporation---probably the only truthful think she has said her entire time as a McCain surrogate.
And what about McCain touting Meg Whitman as a possible Secretary of Treasury? E-Bay genius and job creator extraordinaire Meg just announced she was putting 10% of her employees out of work just the day before. McCain seems to have a real memory problem---his doesn't quite retain anything longer than a matter of hours.
Funnier still is listening to the insipid Cindy McCain rail on about Obama not supporting "her son" who went off to fight in Iraq when he voted against funding the troops in a bill that contained no timeline. Cindy also seems to suffer from memory lapses. She forgets her husband voted against a similar bill because it did contain a timeline. She also appears not to be at all angered by one President Bush who sent her son, and many more people's children, to war with no armor, poorly equipped, and then electrocuted them in their own showers after a meal of tainted food.
But none of them, not McCain or the talking heads or the entire FOX network or the entire Republican Party seems to remember their wonder boy currently perched upon the ashes and rubble of his latest disaster. This time, however, they've taken away his bullhorn.
I say thanks but no thanks to another CEO President, at least not a Republican one. And while I, too, would like to forget George W. Bush, unfortunately I can't. Everytime I see pictures of the still unfinished wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the still remaining ruins of New Orleans, and the still breathing Osama Bin Laden, I cannot forget who has been in charge. And every time I put gas in my car, buy groceries and check my bank balances and retirement account, I see the face of our CEO President and Vice President with all their "experience" paid for with our hard-earned tax dollars and I want my money back.
