I've been trying to understand the rationale behing the McCain/Palin decision to try and destroy Obama with accusations of "palling around with terrorists" and "not seeing the world the way you and I do." Besides the straight bald-faced lies of it, they are obviously trying to terrify the public about Obama because "has some deep dark secret" (he's a terrorist!).
I can understand the normal politician's way of hiding your flaws and accenting your foe's weaknesses or distorting his words, but how does anybody, especially a man who prides himself on honor, decide its okay to try and destroy a man? Because the only way this tactic would work is if Obama's reputation (or his life) was destroyed.
Just watching McCain around Obama you can tell he has no respect and truly loathes him... what has Obama done to deserve that? We're not talking about some minor dislike or distrust, it appears to be full on seething, overt anger. That in itself is bad enough, but to take it so far as to stir up the rascist pot and cast Obama as a terrorist (after all, with guilt by association, the association with a terrorist implies he supports and is a terrorist himself, doesn't it?), what did Obama ever do to cause that?
There's only a few things I can think of that would cause that much anger at another man. Did he hurt McCain's wife? No, that was McCain, dumping the mother of his kids for a much younger heiress because she wasn't the same after a car accident.
Did he spread lies about McCain's children? No, that would be the Republican operatives that now run McCain's campaign.
Did he step on McCain's toes and show him disrespect? As far as I can tell, Obama has been perfectly respectful to McCain, making eye contact and shaking hands at any opportunity. As I see it, the only person not respecting McCain is Mccain.
So if Obama has never done anything remotely bad to John McCain, how can McCain feel its okay for him to try and destroy Obama's reputation or stir up crowds to the point that the secret service has to investigate some of them? The answer is, there's is no reason, other than the fact that McCain is a vengeful old man who hates Barack simply because he's going to win. And how is Obama going to win? By running the kind of campaign that the 2000 McCain would have thought commendable.
Really, the only person McCain has any right to be angry at is himself.
